Southampton- Clipper world race start
Just been released- Southampton are to host the start of the Clipper Round the World Yacht race on Sunday 31st July 2011-

Last round the world yacht race that started in the Solent you could almost walk from the mainland to The Isle of Wight just by stepping from boat to boat, it was sooooo busy! But fantastic too see. Just gotta have eyes in the back of yer head for the loonies that WILL be out there!

Great news!

I remember seeing the whitbread race start from Southampton many moons ago! Well try to be out for sure!

Saw one of the boats out this weekend. They are quite impressive as sailing boats go!

Will also try and make it, which way will they go ? Will they be heading past needles past hurst castle ?

I dont know which way they will go, or even where the start line is. The Whitbread race went past the Needles which made an interesting pinch point with all the thousands of boats trying to squeeze past Hurst. Made for a great shore based spectator point though..... I thought Hurst castle might sink with the number of people stood on it !!!!

Race times
Updates direct from Clipper- The race start is 1630hrs on 31/7/11 somewhere in front of Cowes. The yachts will then leave East along the Solent racing.

They anticipate that Yachts will slip from Ocean Village Southampton in the time 1pm onwards. Access into Ocean Village is likely to be restricted.
