First flew 70 years ago today.

We owe them so much - and the Hurricane of course!!!

saw them at an airshow in folkestone, where you could watch them dogfighting over the white cliffs, awesome.

Best bit is the engine sound, a real menacing growl that raises the hairs on the back of your neck.

Lucky guys.

I don't think I've ever seen an original Spitfire. There was a Seafire that was out and about on the US air show circuit a few years ago, but never a Spit.

Of course you will be very familiar with the sound as the Mustangs use the same engine.

The Seafire is an even better plane - absolutely awesome!!!

i live very close to coningsby airbase where the spitfire and lancaster can be heard and seen every day. fantastic sound of those engines.. you can never get bored of them and in the summertime they return from there air show duties and always fly over the house at only a few hundred feet.
