Yep i had a Honda SS50 in 1977. Wasn't quite as fast as the FS1E as I recall and sounded like a sewing machine! I think petrol was £1.25 a gallon and it didn't use much.

Yep the yamie was quicker being a two stroke, Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding. I think that's where the crazy frog ring tone came from the FS1e.

The SS50 was a dog. Fizzies, weren't the quickest, but the best built and hence out lasted most others well into the restricted 50 era. In the day, Fantics, Garellis etc. were the quickies.

I had one! I put a 70cc head and barrel on it and it was the fastest moped in town. Good for 60 mph. The chap I bought it off wanted 10 pounds and I beat him down to 8!

A good Garrelli Record would do 70mph standard for about two weeks.
The Fantic Ti6 was also quick. 6 gears you could tell one coming a mile off, a gear change ever 3 secs.

My 1974 FSIE was built from 4 of them, did 55mph, and once held 60 for 5 minutes after a downhill run 'til it holed the piston. It DID do 70 once, when my mate on an RD125LC stuck his foot on the back of the seat
63cc big bore kit, chopped induction valve, exhaust port enlarged and raised and the head skimmed.
It'd only run properly on 4 star.

60 mph I was lucky to get 45 out of mine down hill, I even took the baffles out so it would sound more of a powerful wet fart than what it really was. I wonder if they will ever re introduce these mopeds as retro models.

We were lucky, there was a guy at the end of our street who ran a bike workshop from his garage and he'd do the stuff properly instead of us breaking it. He didn't charge much either.

The next bike I wanted when I reached 17 but never got one was the Suzuki GT 250 ram air system with left hand kick start they were the dogs boll*cks of that time until the kawasaki 250 3 into 1 came out. By the time I got to 18 it was cars for me from then on, a lot warmer and more girl friendly.

Get a proper motorbike from the 60 s ,
One of me relatives turned up this afternoon who we haven't seen for a while ,
Funny because living in a small village one of our neighbours shouts out in a yorkshire accent as he pulls up ,, bloody hell it sPeter Fonda!
Bit of a laugh as hed asked her out in the 1960s when they were teenagers but he broke down and missed the date and she finished up going out with her now husband who had a scooter ,back then ,,pity he hadn't kept his lamberetta after all these years .

I dug out a couple of old photos (rubbish scanner).
I'm sure the fairing on the moped made all the difference.
KH250 best bike I ever owned - so inevitably it was nicked!
Cheers

Great pics, I like the fairing btw but it might have slowed it down a bit

I had a Suzuki ER50 in 1983, it was slow and crashed easily LOL, also had a Yamaha DT125LC around 1984 with a jack up kit, the jack up kit ended up being very useful as I hit a car head on at about 30mph and due to the height of the bike I was propelled upwards and over the car, landed on my backside no injuries except a sprained ankle, bike was a mess. In 1986 to 1988 I had a Kawasaki GPZ600R which was a great bike in its day, did 140MPH before I sold it due to going overseas. Great fun days.
