When using Ipad can't find a way of adding emotions in threads smileys aren't a problem is thumbs, face palm etc equally when viewing threads it spells face palm, thumbs etc rather than showing icon.
Emoticons are not supported in either the iOS or Android Apps. As you have seen their text equivalents are shown (and you can enter text equivalents and normal (browser) users will see the relevant emoticon [there is no Wysiwyg tool either so you need to remember the correct text].

FYI (and I have to admit to showing off here), when you have done something really stupid or otherwise made a fool of yourself, the text for an embarrassed redfaced smiley is : willk : (but with no spaces)
