But they are built shockingly badly...
When you talk to the crews you hear all the horrors, and I have friends who make good money flying round the world fixing them.

I suspect they will keep everything in the UK (for a fair while). It is a premium brand and most of that comes from where the product is designed and manufactured.
The problem we have in the UK is we couldn't manage our way out of a paper bag. We have great ideas, great brands, highly skilled workers and still manage to Bugger it all up (with some exceptions, like Rolls Royce).
Just look at Jaguar / Land Rover. Owned by Tata but actually very profitable and still built mostly here. I hate all this foreign ownership stuff, but if Sunseeker turns out the same way that has to be good for everyone involved.... For now anyhow.

PeterM, looking at a Sunseeker 63 late 90's and can not find anything on the web about how good or otherwise they are or common faults.
Not wanting to hijack the thread but was wondering what goes wrong with them.

If it does go through it would be a real shame, sun seeker are probably about one if the last large UK boat manufacturers left! Lets hope if it does go through they will keep production in the UK for a while!

One of the main reasons China buys is that it's built in Britain. Probably by Eastern Europeans, but still in Britain. Or should we say assembled.

The general feeling I hear is that the last ten years have seen cost cutting in the production..so lots of self tapping screws used to hold stuff together.
The new ones out the sheds also seem to have mechanical gremlins which take time to sort out ( more than just the usual niggles you get on any complex bit of machinery).

When we looked at changing our Fairline in 2008 we looked at a Sunseeker at the boat show, it was their smallest boat but quality was really poor, more mastic than the french/german mass production stuff.
It is a pity so see more of our manufacturing being sold off but until we choose home grown products rather than the cheapest it will carry on happening.

So what would be the correct way of "holding stuff together"?

The problem there is that the product is so much more complex than they were 10 years ago, and so there's more to go wrong!
I was at Cquip last week, there biggest customer is Sunseeker, who they sell mainly chinese made stainless steel fittings to. Can't see that lasting very long.
