Alan Bastard MP had the right idea -said the poll tax was great - if you don't pay you don't vote!!!

In fairness someone paying millions in tax should surely have a bigger say in how it is spent than some git sponging on the dole???

And talking of the poll tax although I was only a kid at the time it seemed to me to be the fairest tax ever. Why should a little old lady living on her own pay the same rates as the house next door with say 4 people working???

The ONLY reason the poll tax failed was because the labour councils and the lefty media aimed to destroy it. Swansea city council actually set up a new office called "Margert Thatcher house" to collect it from!!!

In fact my family were far better off and the only people who weren't were the families with several wage earners.

Currently under the council tax system we are paying £1600 a year and that is probably a lot less than many of you out there - and our water bills are now seperate but weren't in the past!!!

I can't believe people could kick up such a fuss about the poll tax and yet allow fuel tax to soar so dramatically and keep paying it!!!

Petrol now £4.15 a gallon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WITHOUT tax - £2.01 per gallon or 44p per litre - dont mind paying that - remember it is NOT the oil price to blame so much!!!

Mr Prawn or Cod as I dare say he is known to his friends, certainly does cultivate an air of mystery doesn't he? Opinionated, Knowledgable (about some things) yet no-one has ever met him. Or even know someone who has met him. Which is kinda odd really as I suspect most posters on rib.net have met another poster at some time or know someone who has met someone. So for example I haven't had the pleasure( ) of meeting Rogue Wave but I do know people who have met him so am fairly convinced he exists. Even Manos was proved to be real, although perhaps some of his boats were figments of his imagination. I am beginning to reckon that Codprawn is a figment of JK's imagination

Sorry, massive fred drift, ermm election. Hmmmm despite their being no bugger really worth voting for I believe that far from only having the intellectually superior with the right to vote, everyone should be made to. It should be taught at school. Its important. Otherwise apathy rules and Tony B'Liar gets back in cos no-one can be bothered to protest.

Although taking a leaf out of politicians books, I am massively hypocritical cos I wont be voting from Canada cos I can't be bothered to find our how to register as an expat voter!

Watch it Suvverner ageism is a serious offence

Never mind your Poll tax and petrol tax wait till you get your new house revaluations and find your house goes up a few bands. Wales suffered this rip off last year and we ended up paying 50% more

Oh dear oh dear, the standards of spelling with the youth of today are atro...atroc..at.....dreadful! I think the word you are looking for is "cantankerous" meaning arguing and complaining a lot.

I would have expected more from a public school education

Yup - 8.5m with a 225 engine on a transom jack.

Boat SHOULD be ready in next few weeks - when it is I will bore you all silly with loads of photos!!!

It is quite a luxury spec with teak decks - seating for up to 12 - some seats being removable. Pretty much a custom build - beefed up hull - heavy duty transom - long range tanks - extra scuppers etc etc.

The thing is everybody i know meet all seem to dislike Labour, yet they keep getting in. For me i have just become worse off. I dont mind paying for good services, but my local counsil have gone mad with traffic signs and generally wasting money.

Heres an example for me which i am sure i will miss things off, lets take an example of a quid

£1 , i pay on some of my money 40% tax (dont start saying I'm rich)

so 60p before i even think about spending

so then if i read the petrol comment right then 50% goes to the gov, so of thet 60p, 30 goes to the gov, then Vat at 17.5%,,, basically out of that quid the gove gets (40+30+vat). Might as well work for the gov for nothing
