I've sailed , cruised and raced on a Bavaria 38.
We won race series and the boat was very competitive.
Like everything out there (cars, boats, motorbikes) I'm sure there are good and bad examples of people's experience with them, but in my experience I certainly wouldn't say they are c&*p!
I'd certainly own one(but probably not this one!!) in a flash.

Worst boat I've ever sailed is a Bavaria 42 - two different ones. Close-hauled they don't point anywhere near as high as most similar-sized boats, if any of the hull forward of the keel emerged from the water they got blown off big-time and you had to reduce sail before any other boat due to weather-helm.They were a stunning commercial success however due to the generous below-deck accommodation and looked nice and shiny in the marina, but the trade off was compromised sailing ability.
I sailed an old Gibsea 45 (late 80's vintage with knackered sails) across the Straits of Gibraltar from Sotogrande to Morocco and beat a Bavaria 42 by nearly 90 minutes. Give me a yacht rather than a wind-blown caravan any day.

..and I bet the seller's thinking he's on to a sure thing - what with the massive number of views he's getting!

Bavarias are very good boats for what most people ACTUALLY use a yacht for, rather than what they IMAGINE they will use a yacht for.
Short weekend local sailing with maybe a couple of weeks gentle cruising in good weather. Plenty of space for kids and showing off to your mates.

Yeah exactly, I own two currently, and unlike the chap in the next mooring to me, who bought a new dufour at probably nearly double the price, my bilges weren't getting about 3L of salt water in them per hour when crossing the channel!
