Top Gear - Gibb Quod bikeski

Have to say I liked the Gibb Quod bike/ski thing on Top Gear tonight - and for £26K- I'm impressed. Would love to have one.

However - Not quite so sure of BBC / Clarkson bombing around Lake Como at speed with no PFD of any description, or a helmet-the later useful on the land bit as well. I' not one for the H&S police, but I did think this is not good practice. He was wearing the kill cord (around his wrist) though.

What's the opinion of the Ribnet jury?

Good program, gave me a giggle. Up to JC if he can't be arsed with a PFD.

Hmmmmm, to be honest, the whole format is creaking at the seams and after two weeks of the new series it's looking unbelieveably predictable, dated and formulaic. Time for some new young talent to emerge methinks. Someone needs to do to Clarkson what he did to Tony Mason all those years ago...

And yes, his whole 'attitude' toward water-based activity, demonstrated over many series, is wholly irresponsible.

I watched the first 2 episodes of the last series & gave up. Tired, formulaic, puerile. I could forgive Hammond & Clarkson but not May, he's better than that.

Err, that's the whole idea of the show isn't it? It's not so much a motoring programme; it's three middle-aged men acting as though they're teenagers. I can't believe any comments on this thread are serious!

Perhaps, but a PFD is not a legal requirement. A seatbelt is...

From what I have seen on the Italian lakes nobody gives a bugger even on the hire boats
We use our PFDs and seem the odd ones out

Yeah, shame you can regularly see people in all sorts of programs breaking UK law........
People presenting at height with no fall protection, reading enforcement paperwork and maps while driving, and these are just two examples I've seen in the last couple of weeks....

I used to watch top gear many years ago, but these days I find I cant last more than about 30 seconds and switch channels, they are just too much of a bunch of tw&ts and have killed the show.

Its only a comedy/car show, out of all the crap on tv, its a higher quality crap than all the other crap, so I'm quite enjoying the new series, that Alfa was very nice but I was well impressed with the Mclaren, electric motor technology is catching up, but battery life needs major improvement, be interesting to see how Porsche tech compares. As for JC not wearing a PFD, he wouldn't need one with all that blubber, still not a good example though.

No pfd.

Granted not illegal and it's all our own call, usually!!

However he's on the BBC and employed, the insurance/risk assessment can't have been done properly.

most sensible people wear them on a 40mph jet ski. The odds of falling off and hitting your head or winding yourself are so high compared to nearly all other water based boating. It's just stupid.

Had he been in a boat, the odds of falling out are very remote and it's a fair shout in that weather not to wear one.

They're just stupid for stupids sake these days.

I used to love Top Gear but have grown very weary of the predictable and formulaic format, which now seems to rely far too heavily on wonton destruction and slap stick to get it's kicks.
If Clarkson wants to disregard sensible (but not legally necessary!) safety issues that's largely up to him - but I do take the point that he is in the limelight and probably should be setting a good example, even though there would have been quite a support infrastructure of filming crew and other vessels in close attendance. However I'm not sure that LJ's or helmets would have helped much in an argument with that ferry's hydrofoil's!

I liked top gear when it was a programe about cars. It is now a soap type programe more based on "enterment" than information regarding cars. I like fith gear though
