Jon you are right - Perry was the stig in black. I only know this as he did a motivational speech for us at a works conference last week, and in the Q&A bit he explained what he used to do. (good stories about thrashing Jamie Oliver and Jodie Kidds maseratis around the test track). He did point out that the Stig is several people now, as the style is very different.
If you get the chance to see him talk, or have the opportunity to hire him for a function, he is well worth the money.
