What a disapointing thread.....(until the last page or so)
Disapointing not beacause i'm offended by what people are saying but because we seem to be worying about protecting people from something they might read....that's "might" read not "must" read BTW.
I dont recall any forum by-law that states that ALL threads must be read....if you start reading a thread (especially in the "other" section) and it doesn't intrest you or you object to it...then stop reading it.
I suppose i (simplistically) see this forum as a book store. You can walk in and find a book which will answer most of your questions. Admitedly most will be of a technical nature but if you should find a very small shelf right at the back of the shop that contains current affairs/jokes/topical issues, is it really worth complaining to the store managers that a few of these books offend you?....just dont read them. (top shelf of the newsagents stand comes to mind)
I'm pretty open minded and respect that everyone has the right to his/her own opinion and at the end of the day it is only that...an opinion. This opinion will have no bearing on by life and not change me for what i believe in.
Do i feel the original JS thread was disrespectfull to the victims....on the face of it yes. Do i feel that the members posting on that thread meant to disrespect the victims....of course not, being sarcastic and poking fun after any serious incident is what we Brits do best.....
I' sure many of JS's victims will be aware of the jokes circulating but would like to think they realise that this in no way negates any of the sympathy the public (or I) feels for them.
Only my 2 centimes's worth.....
