I think I'm going for the HD Hero if the quality is similar, worth it for the saving.
An a frame mounted go-pro would do wonders for your eBay listings

Is that off the sales pitch or experience? My single battery when fully charged lasts around 35 mins in continuous video mode...5 hours would need a hell of an memory card too

I get two hours and a bit off one battery on the new camera, the new clip on additional pack I have yet to use but was told should allow up to five and half hours! Agree I need a larger SD card which I am now looking for maybe 32gb. So some is experience of single unit on 16gb card and then go pro staffs sales team

The go pro site quotes about 8gb/ hour for full 1080 recording.

I've got a HERO 2 now as well as the double battery pack...it's quite possible they've made some power saving changes in the HERO 2.
I'll soon find out...

Nathan...check the GoPro website.
There are three HERO cameras...the HERO 960, HERO Original and the HERO 2 Professional...the latter two both shoot in 1080 but there are lots of detail differences between the three which can be compared HERE. The HERO 2 shoots in more detail, has a higher pixel count, a better lens, greater low light capability and can shoot in wide, medium or narrow formats.

GoPro all the way. Superb mounted on our sea safari rib. Advice though....get the anti-mist strips and don't mount near engines as that's all you hear!

Here is the web deal I found for £259.99 inc p&p it shows £261.99 until you add it to cart and then you get a £2 discount and free postage.
Awooza.com :: GoPro Camera HD HERO2 Motorsports Edition CHDMH-002
However for a few pounds more I have decided to buy locally for about £263 when the camera is back in stock.

The quick search I did found the cheapest place to be eBay at £245 delivered for the HD2 Surf edition (assuming that's more suited for use with boats than the motorsports kit)
Any good ?

Peter...I went for the motorsports kit as I thought he suction mount more useful than some of the strap mounts that come with the surf kit. I've only used the suction mount for playing with the camera in the car though.
In addition, I bought the roll bar kit for fixing to the A frame. In reality though, I've only ever used the self adhesive mounts (on a flat plate atop the A frame, on the console top and on the grained moulding of a kayak) as they're like sh$t to a blanket. I know there's some on here that knock this but no-one has ever said they've had one either come off or come loose (so far!) As I've said before, if the self adhesive mounts are good enough for the roof of Cookee's boat at 70mph+, then that sounds pretty robust to me

Been watching this thread with some interest as i plan to get myself a video camera for the rib very soon. So i'm getting the feeling that most say that the gopro heros are the best cameras, but is the hero 2 worth the extra £100 compare to the hero.
Also if anyone has both the hero and hero 2, are the differences really worth the extra money.
Are they simple to edit, i'm a complete newbie to these???

Go look at some of the GoPro comparisons on the web, there does seem to be better results with the GoPro 2, borne out by the higher pixel count.
However, there are a few advantages over and above mere video quality. Once you are used to it the menu structure and icons on the GoPro 2 are easy to navigate, whereas (I am told!) the GoPro is far less intuitive. Apparently the 2 also has a better lens - cannot comment on that. I guess to some extent it depends on what you are going to view your results on, a small laptoop screen probably does not need too high a resolution.
I use Windows Live Movie Maker on a i3 equipped laptop, and I was able to get a video onto YouTube in one evening, despite never having used Movie Maker or YouTube before
