Virgin incessantly ringing
We've got Virgin broadband and phone.
Does anyone else have a problem with Virgin incessantly ringing them trying to sell them deals on broadband/tv/phone?
They've been told 4 times now not to ring me and they keep on doing it-even though they've been specifically told not to as I'm likely to be driving during the day.

Nos
Sign up to the TPS (Telephone Preferencing Service) then it becomes illegial for them to call you.
http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/tps/
You can also sign up on there for Fax and post as well.
It normally takes 28 days to become effective, but everytime ive signed up, its stopped people calling!!
Hope it helps

Not sure it applies to people calling their own customers.

I think I did. Thing is, it's always prefaced by 'it's regarding your account with us' so they could possibly get round it.

You are going about it the wrong way. What you do is ring customer services and tell them it is causing you great problems as there is someone sick/ill at home and they are being disturbed - say you want to leave Virgin and mention the Sky word.
They gave me the fastest broadband - 20mb and loads of tv channels etc - I am only paying £9.99 for my broadband now - for the fastest service there is!!!

I think i'll try that
Turns out my mobile wasn't on the TPS but the rest of the phones here were-I must have forgotten to do mine. Funny, it's not long since I had a sales call on the landline.

I'm with Virgin and after registering with the TPS a few years a go I haven't had a single sales call from Virgin for some time now, not that many from other companies either.
Well worth registering, can even do it online these days:

TPS / MPS definitely doesn't apply where there is a genuine existing relationship. However, it would be sensible for companies to check before phoning existing customers - after all, they may not be the most receptive. Unfortunately in today's data-intensive world, the information doesn't always match up with customer requirements (not necessarily a criticism - it is difficult to get it 100% right).
But I've had the same problem with TalkTalk, even after explaining to them why I don't want their broadband service.
I like the old one about the IBM (or pick any company) salesman who endlessly pesters a prospective account who isn't interested. After many months of refusals, the prospect finally agrees to a meeting. The meeting goes - "I've told you on the phone, I've told you in a letter, now I can tell you to your face - f*** off and leave me alone". Perhaps we should try arranging a few meetings!

Three Rex , My understanding is that TPS only stops calls that originate from the UK . They can't stop the overseas nuisance .
