I'd love to have seen that ... I was surprised at how big they were when I was under one at Duxford IIRC

I thought it couldn't get a flying certificate because the airframe had exceeded it's safe limit. Saw it at Leuchars Airshow a few years back it ran down the runway then throttled back. What a noise from the engines. Nice to see one airborne (thankfully not performing the duty it was built for ).

a vulcan used to do a touch and go at the American base at (when it was an airbase) at R.A.F. Upper Heyford , that was to keep it officialy and R.A.F. base. When the brit goverment decided to scrap the Vulan fleet the Americans wanted to buy them our goverment wouldnt sell them they just scrapped them instead. The concord did a touch and go there one Saturday afternoon when I was working, they all complained about the noise I just told then to "shut up its a British noise"

Saw The Vulcan at CarFest North yesterday - completely stunning display.

As my 5 year old daughter said "daddy I can feel that plane in my tummy"

20,000 people applauded at the end of the display

Only seen one at air shows as I wasn't here when Black Buck came over but it's the sound of freedom to us and I love the old tin triangle, it's only a shame they weren't allowed to turn right half way down and finish the job. An empty Vulcan doing an unrestricted climb from take off is a pretty impressive sight, only fighters are supposed to do that!

I seem to recall Vulcans doing quite well in Red Flag exercises against/with the Americans.

For lots of reasons, we couldn't build anything similar now.
