We're back!

Apologies to anyone who has found themselves actually having to do some work for the last three days in the absence of the RIBnet forums to take up all their time!

As is often the way with these things is was a cascade of events that meant the downtime was so long. The good news is that the server has been completely re-built and now has a gigabyte of RAM to make sure that everything keeps moving along.

There was to be a planned outage in the next few weeks for this upgrade which shouldn't be necessary now.

Thanks for your patience! Onwards and sideways . . .

John

RIBnet lives on a server called titan which is part of the Crosswired server cooperative.

As a coop member, this means that effectively I am my own ISP and can only shout at myself when problems occur Luckily we do have some well clued up members who are able to sort out the serious side of things, but it's not a 24/7 arrangement that you would expect from a commercial host.

On the plus side, the server is lightly loaded and well connected -- hence the normal high speed of the site. It also means that I don't have to worry that the forums database now takes up 180Mb and that we use upwards of 10Gb data transfer a month (and rising)

I know we've had a problems in the last few months, but I have seen worse from some so called commercial hosts.

For a commercial host I 100% recommend FutureQuest. There may be cheaper options, but their reliability and service is unbeatable.

Up and down like a flippin' yo-yo! It appears that the extra RAM that seemed like such a good idea at the time was the cause of the problem. It's been removed . . .

Onwards and sideways!
