Which Combie Condensing Boiler.

I'm looking at replacing my boiler and it's a mine field out there, is there anyone on here in the know and can advise which is decent and which is crap.

My existing boiler is a Vokera and has lasted for 16 years but is not very energy efficient anymore plus it's not a condensing one.

Thanks K.

Worcester Bosch are highly recommended and very efficient.

Mine Greenstar 28i has been a PITA.

I can recommend what not to go for if that helps? We have a suprima 50. Breaks a lot. Got it insured with British gas. All good now but the pcb go a lot works well when it works. Two pcbs now in 5 years

Just had my old boiler kick the bucket! My son-in-law (Gas safe fitter) fits Glow-worm Flexicoms, taken over by Valiant. Reckons they're one of the best! Valiant is the same German company, don't go for the cheaper Italian ones he says! Around £800 plus fitting!

I am in the heating trade and only fit/recomend Vaillant now after problems with others.
Been Vaillant only on condensing gas combis now for about 4 years and only 1 problem that they sorted f-o-c the next day, and we have fitted lots, so a good unit. HTH.

kerny,

My uncle is a plumber up in Manchester and corgi registered. Put a Worcester in my mums house to replace the 30 year old unit which finally packed up. They have a great write up in Which magazine and is saving her £££££££'s

I would not have a worcester in my house if you gave me a free one, plumbers like them as they are easy of fit and they take the money and are gone (sorry we do not repair those sir ) . Heating engineers hate them as they are unreliable and expensive to fix. old worcesters were good, new are pants.

whatever you go for make sure that the installer runs the condensate drain pipe inside the house(if practical), as otherwise they freeze solid when you need them most and you will have no heating.

Our condensation pipe runs outside into a drain, but is fully insulated against freezing!

21.5mm overflow pipe with armaflex pipe lagging , the plumbers favorite.

they still freeze in the sub zero winters, a good income stream for me but a PITA for the householder.

If we have to run external we use 1 1/2" sink waste pipe and a heating trace wire, never had one freeze yet.

as we service and repair all makes , we see whats good and whats not , and as independents have no commercial axe to grind.
