Who doesn't vote? Are we the disaffected silent majority?
I know this is a bit 'wtf.com' JK but I'm curious here. Due to the essential criteria for being a member of this site (ie you're going to have enough disposable income to own and run a boat) we're all pretty much in or going to be in the mid to high income bracket-ie the "middle-class silent majority" to put a rather distasteful label on it.
There seems to be an awful lot of very pissed off people here too.
So... Who votes?

I'm quite happy with my lot really.
It just makes me angry when I see free loaders taking advantage of the Social and Benefits system. At the end of the day they are making me pay more tax to give to them. Money that if I had I would spend on a bigger boat.
I think they should bring in a 'Gold Card System' Tax Payers should have a Gold Privilege card and anytime they need a public service they show the card to get preferential treatment and maybe a nice cup of coffee and fine biscuits. Those that don't pay can hang around all day waiting. They ain't got anything better to do.

Maybe I should change the main question. Who here DOESN'T vote? (changed title now)

I don't vote, mainly because I don't feel I devote enough of my time to examining and understanding politics/and policies to have a sufficiently informed opinion to actually cast a vote.

Never voted, never will. No politician is ever going to come close to putting anything right, so why trust any of them? "Anybody who wants to be a politician shouldn`t be allowed to be one"-Billy Conolly

Unfortunately not voting is interpreted as 'we're happy with it as it is'.
The only recognised method of saying 'I'm not happy with any of them' is to spoil your ballot paper.

Personally I feel that we should never waste our votes as people have fought and died to give us the right. Some countries would love the chance to be allowed to vote.
Having said that I think people should have to take some form of exam before they are allowed near a polling station. I mean how can you vote on the way a country is run if you have no clue what any of it means???
I think the more tax you pay the bigger say you should have in the way it's spent - sounds fair enough to me!!!
What amazes me is that some immigrants I know are allowed to vote even though they are NOT British citizens. It is mad - any wonder tony blair let's so many people in - it's so they will all vote for him!!!

I used to Vote. Don't see much point now. Any Government that is voted in is going to blame it's predesessor for problems and force upon us it's own rights.
We must be one of the most Government controlled Countries of the World! And most don't even relise it!
I say "bring back the Unions" (or just one. Named, "the Union of the People"), now they've not allways been good news for the Citizens of our fine Country, but at least (if used correctly) you'd have a large power that could stand up for peoples rights.
We all know where the Government is wasting/shaving money and area's that could be improved (NHS dentists, doctors, transport, Schools.......) but please tell me. How do we go about improving these services?
I'm sorry to sound so cynical, but it's fast becomming a "if you can't stand the heat, get out the Kitchen" policy from the powers.

I want Torys in as well. Boom and Bust I'll make loads of wonga and have plenty of disposible income.
On a more serious note though, I know more people today that say 5 years ago that are moving/emigrating to foreign lands.
Now what's the RIB industry like in Austrailia?

15 years and I'm off if I'm still fit and of healthy mind.
Sounds like a jail sentence. A pretty tough one you don't even get 15 years for murder nowadays.

All of which would be an unusual basis for a democracy (I think the correct term for what you are proposing is Oligarchy).
fortunately RibNet is a dictatorship and I am sure our great leader will be locking this thread very soon.

This is labour guaranteeing its next term.
You even get prospective MPs going round and helping these poor people to fill out there voting forms and making sure they are balloted. Corrupt or what !
