Mmm, interesting concept that driving a german sports car is a tawdry public display of outrageous bad taste; each to their own I suppose. I just find it interesting how quick people are to judge others and I guess you've confirmed how prevalent this is yet again.

Sorry - don't know what came over me. I am guilty of inappropriate humour and intolerant outbursts. Thank you both for showing me the error in my understanding.

I'm going to redeem myself by buying a porsche (I really need this car for its mix of practicality and space), getting blinged up, moving to a council house and festooning it with really lovely flashing lights celebrating f*ck knows what but it's Christmas innit, and finding a girl from essex and getting her to go blonde and commando.

Do I also need a bull terrier called Tyson?

I think someone has the words NEEDS and WANTS mixed up. A need would be:

It starts
It gets you from a to b at the speed limit
It stops

Plus some specialist ones like:

Its comfortable to drive
Its safe

WANTS are:

Speed
Design
Colour

I fail to see how anyone would NEED a 911 unless you're so insecure about yourself you NEED to try to make yourself look good?

My current runabout is a Suzuki SJ413 that i bought for 300 quid.
I needed a car that started, gets me to the woods, drives around the woods and i dont care if the dog ruins the passenger seat.

Anyway back to the 0-pikey in the flick of a switch..................................

Yea, lets festoon our houses with lights, wasting further energy and natural resources! Global warming, hate snow anyways!

sorry, imho that is nonsense. My wants are completely different from my needs and the 911 fits into the latter catagory. My wants would be a r/rover for towing the RIB, an aston martin just so I could listen to it and look at it and a caterham for the racetrack. I cant afford this collection so I have a car that meets my needs within my budget. I drive 140 miles every day round trip to work and a great deal of time abroad and these are my needs:

I need it to start every day without fault and be 100% reliable
I need it to be bullet proof in terms of residuals as I dont enjoy losing my shirt to depreciation.
I need it to be able to put a smile on my face every day otherwise the a3/m25 combo would make the journey unbearable
I need it to be able to carry four people at (legal) speed to continental europe regularly

none of these are about being secure / insecure,just buying the best car to suit my needs. If you can think of a car that will do all of the above, I'll happily swap.

You're wrong.

Since I accepted the advice of the Donut lifestyle Guru I haven't looked back (largely because Tyson ate the mirror). Shanelle loves the Porsche (I bought one of the yellow ones), and my new look makes Ali G look maudlin. We get admiring looks down at Lidl, and also from the much more discerning crowd at Aldi, especially now I've got me personalised reg P1KEY. As for practicality - don't worry about dog shit etc. on the seats - they clean up a treat, and I've got seat covers on anyway. A 911's not as good as me old Nissan for dogging - Shanelle suggested using the bonnet but we keep slipping off (this is clearly a design fault as it happens to all the other doggers with 911s we see down the carpark and the solution is to use the huge parcel shelf on the boot). House looks great with the lights, although running them of a "borrowed" generator is a bit noisy, but with the 'leccy cut off what other options were there?

Finally I think global warming's a good thing as it will cut down the heating bills, and I may even save enough cash to buy car insurance.

p.s. love the idea of Pompey having Christmas lights all year round - planning something similar myself!

no thanks, no honda or mazda is a pleasant place to spend extended periods of time (imho). The honda type r will make your arse feel like it's been attacked by david furnish and the mazda will have used up enough oil to keep a small country warm by the time you get to france.
