Wimax

I know there are some electronic/comms geniuses out there. Any idea if Europe is going to go for this in the next few years?-

The only thing that will stop it coming in is governments and mobile phone operators - the implications are enourmous!!!

It will happen sooner or later - free mobile phone broadband access for all - repeaters in everyone's homes etc etc!!!

I know Codders - It could mean the finish of a lot of telcomm companies- it means that high speed access would be EVERYWHERE and you just plug in your VOIP and bingo No BT anymore...... You can bet your bottom dollar that
a lot of people are going to resist this , as it makes a mockery of the current structures. If I had your money ,I would start buliding towers and get licenses.

If there were a few foreward thinking people in Europe ( there must be some around?)- they would stop G3, stop investing in GSM pylons, ect ect. BT could get rid of thousands of useless gits, get rid of Vodaphone's dominent position..... How about when you set up wind turbines - you set up a Wimax tower at the same time and use the revenue from Wimax to finance green power// go a step further mount a wimax trans/rec on the wind turbine tower- as you alreaday have planning permission for the wind turbine. Now thats a good idea... good on you Eupa.

We might as well live in a Microwave oven.

And you don’t get anything for free, the service will operate much in the same way as WiFi hot spots.

However telecom companies do have a reason to be afraid of such technologies, year on year traditional telephony severs are being eroded by VoIP and it is inevitable that traditional Plain Old telephones will disappear with in the next 20 years to be replaced by IP handsets and soft phones, changing times we live it.
