That's still 30 odd tonnes per property!
I looked into a Biomass log fired. Our local robber wanted £30k for the kit, he estimated 18t of wood per year. That didn't include building a plant room.
Even with the greeny grants, that was never gonna happen.
I looked into and costed most renewable options, I settled on Solar water, MVHR and a shit load of insulation.
Might slap some PV panels about the place at some point.

IMO, it's a con-job. Pay now - pay later too. Insulation, Insulation, Insulation and wear a fleece!
I mean, there's supposed to be Global Warming coming?!?

100% agree with insulation insulation quote.
It makes a substantial difference.
Kingspan/celotex boards between floor joists, dropping ceilings and fitting insulation boards there too.
The difference is unreal !!

They aren't your usual bungalows though. My house is 6 bedrooms, the Lodge is 10 bedrooms and the Cottage is 5. All properties are old stone built houses with walls 3ft thick and no insulation, they use ALOT of heat.
We could trim our useage down but why? The more we burn the more recieve from the RHI.
We harvest 30k tonnes of timber a year here so 100 tonnes is neither here nor there.

It's a con-job for the domestic side, commercial is a different ball game.
With RHI income circa £15k/annum, a saving of £12k in oil and we produce our wood chip for free, it was a no brainer.
Payback is around the 6 years and we have a guaranteed income for 20yrs

Very nice indeed Alan but surely with a property that size and being a self-confessed wearer of the tartan trews you should have TWO black Labradors?

Woodburner Glass Cleaner
Hahaha
Do you think if I owned a house like that I'd be playing about in old ribs, I'd have a lovely new Redbay and a man do do the repairs.
Unfortunately I'm just the gamekeeper/general dogsbody.

never ever burn wet wood, you wreck your chimney. you dont need a hetas installer to fit stove - its just a con, nothing at all like gas safe. buy a stove on the smaller side of what you work out you need, much better and easier to have a stove running at its peak which you can then slow down, than it is to have a small fire in a large stove. and when trying to control fire, only do it when the stove and chimney are actually hot and working properly. when burning wood, blank off the grate and always keep a layer of ash in the bottom - wood gets its air from above unlike coal, and an open grate allows the all important embers to drop through remember that the heat is in the embers and not the flames.

Would you like to enlarge on this statement.
