So...to cut a long story short.... they refunded my payment and waived the cancellation fee.
any trailer you are lawfully towing with a car is the point you cannot legally tow anything over 7 metres without a vehicle plated for over 3500kg and that's commercial vehicle territory

They are less than 7m, it is 7m not counting the draw bar....breakdown companies count it though. That is the problem.

My total length is 8m but minus the draw bar I'm about 6.8.-7m

The DVLA term the draw bar an A frame now....dunno why. They should know an A frame is at back of rib and not for towing it

Straight from the government's web site.....

A towing vehicle with GVW of 3500kg or lower is restricted as to the size of trailer it may tow. The trailer can be a maximum of 7m long by 2.55m wide. A heavier vehicle can tow a trailer of maximum 12m long by 2.55m wide. Exceptionally, where the trailer is specially designed to carry long loads (eg one or more boats, gliders), the 7m limit does not apply.

ah thank you I only knew about the 7 metre thing from my experience owning a 7.25 metre caravan

I asked with RAC and they said if I s legal on the road, they’ll recover. So the 7m and 3500kg etc apply

RAC will not recover a broken trailer according to RYA when asked.

RAC - If your trailer breaks down within the UK, we will attempt to repair it at the roadside. This could either be a permanent or temporary repair. However if the trailer cannot be repaired, we will not recover it.

I get the feeling the sales departments will tell you pretty much anything, hang phone up and call claims line and ask them maybe worth doing.

As I said before, the 7m is not counting the drawbar but the breakdown companies count it. Last tango even posted up the DVLA wording and technically you could tow way over 7m and still be legal but it looks like breakdown companies may say you are on your own when crunch comes.

I wonder if you have caravan club membership if RAC will offer their arrival service on boats, that would fix everything as no limits apply- https://www.rac.co.uk/breakdown-cove...anandmotorhome

Looks like there may be some mileage in that route as they mention trailers are covered-

The Camping and Caravanning Club. Your cover includes everything standard RAC breakdown cover offers together with specialist benefits to cover your caravan, trailer tent, motorhome or trailer

Hi

RAC is based on a frame as is green flag and that is after the hitch. The DVLA say it is where the manufacture cliams it starts so on a 12M trailer the other week the trailer part was 6.5 m. The AA do relay now and hence can take a silly amout of time. Greenflag private of the the CC dont care how big it is but if for business do!!! National Breakdown are cheap but take you to a local open garage or give a hire car but no onward journey. solution is go with the AA so it might be slow but it will get us where we need to be. Thanks all
