Category C rib and Code 3r (restricted)

Hi everyone, I've just joined the group, thanks.

I've just purchased a Highfield Patrol 700 with a Honda 150hp.
The boat is C.E. marked C, does anyone know if this can be used for the RYA Advanced Powerboat course because there is some night work involved in the Advanced course.

I understand that a C.E. "C" marked rib can be categorised 3R (restricted) that allows it to operated at night within 3 miles of its base. I will be operating in the River Medway.

Your help would be very much appreciated.

Cheers Greg

RIBase
Is this to use as an RYA school boat, I.e. you’re taking paying passengers/clients, or for you to do the power boat course as your own boat?

Hi Dave,
Yes to do RYA Advanced Power Boat. MGN 280 says that only C.E. Category B and above can be coded for night use. My RIB like most I believe is C.E. Category C which can only be coded for class
I understand that a Category C Rib can be Coded by the RYA as a class 3r (restricted) that would allow it to be used at night.

Have you had experience of that?

RCD category C can be coded for cat 3R, but I don't think you can use a single engined boat for advanced, as you have to cover use of twin engines,
Have you spoken to recognition at the RYA?

Hi Dry Doc. I'm an Advanced Power Boat Instructor and I'm doing Advanced pb on a single engine rib already. I've spoken to my coder for the rya and he says it's all OK.
Cheers mate

I understand that is not possible as there is no phone number and emails are not answered, only what I've been told. I've directed everything through my local dealer

Are you on the facebook group?
