Commercial Radios

Hey Guys, I'm wondering if anyone out there knows what type of Two Way Radio would be good for commercial use? They would have to be rugged enough to be prepared to be dropped thrown around, get salt water sprayed on them and things like that!
They also have to be able to have accsesorries for them, either come with acessories or be able to buy them! Prefere to not have to buy the acessories!

THEY HAVE TO BE CHEAP

Can anyone help please!

Where can I buy them from?

SC - do you mean marine VHF's or PMR's or something more professional ? i.e. are you replacing the clubs h/held that mdt is upset that 'you' lost OR had he banned you from using them and so you need an alternative

Bad news is the words rugged, commercial, waterproof are rarely found in the same sentence as "cheap".

You can take the exam and earn your SRC, but for "Authority to Operate" you have to be 16

Ok lets be clear first I NEVER LOST the clubs h/held! But I am trying to find out who it was! Cause I dn't like the blame put on me for no reason, I had nothing to do with the h/held being lost! I was only told to tell the 'CO' (I've watched too much sea patrol) what had happened!!! I have my own VHF an Icom IC-M71! Last of all am looking for 'Two Way' radios, that are pro quality!

OK so you are not looking for marine VHF's? Most of these are going to give you licensing issues (and costs!). So, unless you have a particular reason not to, then I think you are looking at PMRs. Personally I would accept that most PMRs are not robust/waterproof etc and so go relatively cheap and protect it in an aquapack. I think there are some "serious" ones around, but you can probably buy 4 cheap ones and an aquapack for the cost of one.

Not sure what "accessories" you are looking for - but most mid range PMRs will accept standard headphone/mics. Getting waterproof ones and properly waterproofing the connection is not so easy!

Well am looking for something more like the pic below! But I don't know how much they cost and where to buy them from! I know that the pic below the 2 Way isn't waterproof! But really it only has to be splash proof! And also the acessories for the radio below are varied and has what am looking for! Does anybody have a couple of the same or similar going for sale? If so please PM me with pics as well!

Thanks

The other pic of the complete sytem I like this but not the yellow ear things! I like the rest though! I have experience with the Standard Horizon Two Way Radios as well, but I never got them!

Do you wear a helmet? You can buy pretty good radio gear designed to integrate with Gecko

The motorola's are good radios. You can knock hell out of them and they will still work, some are submersible but obviously you'll pay more for them.
You usually get them programmed too so if you bought two of the same radios channel 1 may not communicate with channel 1 on the other radio.

Both Icom and Vertex Standard (commercial radio part of Standard Horizon) make fully waterproof commercial grade PMR radio's. You will require a PMR licence to own and use these radio's. The best one for this would be the UK General PMR licence.

Please do not confuse these with the cheap licence free PMR446 radio's, they are not one in the same.

Cheers

The radios are individually programmed, two building sites can work side by side using the same radios but programmed to different frequencies.

What did you ask for then?

All radios are programmed but you need to be aware that unlike a marine VHF where all channels are the same the motorola's can be programmed for the individual user.

I think chewy's point is - there is no "normal". And so you need a pair programmed (or to get them reprogged) to the same config.

Thats what I meant, your best of buying a set of cheap pre-programmed radios and stick them in a bag.
