Master 200 - best centre for oral prep
Have had an NOE for a while now for master 200 unlimited but keep getting distracted from the business of actually booking the oral prep course. Would be interested in any experience anyone has of the various training centres in relation to this specific course.

Master 200
Will
Although we are a well established centre and have been involved in teaching yachting/motor boating for a long time this is a relatively new course for us.
Details can be found at Master 200 at Stormforce Coaching
Give me a call at the centre 02380 231122, if you would like to discuss.
Best Regards

Master 200
Thanks gents but aware of all of these, was really looking for info on actual experiences on this course. Did my ocean at uksa, very good and nice to stay on site, did stcw fire and pssr at warsash, also excellent. Seems like hoylake are the leaders in Master 200 but not very convenient these days for me.

Appeal for Master 200 Prep Notes.
Does anyone please have a copy of the Master 200 oral prep notes that they'd be willing to send me? Thanks.

Hi,
Also an appeal for master prep notes here, I'm looking to sit this exam later in the year but am struggling to find any information on study notes (How I found out about this website). Is it possible I could have a copy of the notes please?
I recently sat my OOW (unlimited) ticket and could them notes be good enough or are dedicated notes the best?
Many thanks,
Ben.

To be honest Ben, if you have an OOW Unlimited then you are already at a higher level than the Master 200 so I am not sure what value the notes would be?

The main thing is the OOW doesn't go too far into the masters legislation which is what i'm after mainly, I touched on it briefly in college and the MCA just tell me to go to college for a course and i'd rather self study to fit in with work so was looking for notes just to help me along.
thanks for your reply,
Ben.

Master 200 (Code Vessels) as the vessel I'm working on is a small survey boat (15.8LOA)
If I can be eligible for the Master 500 then I would do that, I'll go check just now.
(Don't have the seatime to go for that certificate)
Thanks,
Ben.

Actually, if you have a OOW 3000 then according to MSN 1802 I think, they will just give you the M200 without the exam.
They must surely do the same for an OOW unlimited!

14.0 Endorsing existing OOW (Yachts) and Chief Mate (Yachts) CoCs
14.1 Holders of OOW (Yachts less than 3000gt) and Chief Mate (Yachts less than 3000gt) certificates may wish to obtain the endorsement for Master (Code Vessels, less than 200gt).
14.2 For holders of a Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate the endorsement will be limited to 150 miles from a safe haven. For holders of a Yachtmaster Ocean Certificate the endorsement will be unlimited. Unless the Yachtmaster certificate was issued before 31 July 2003 then the certificate of successful completion of the corresponding shore- based course is also required.
14.3 Endorsements will be added to existing CoCs upon revalidation at no extra cost. A written request and GMDSS GOC should accompany the revalidation application. The appropriate Yachtmaster certificate, with shore-based completion certificate if required, should be sent with the revalidation application if not previously sighted by MCA e.g. where an OOW now has a Yachtmaster Ocean certificate and requires the unlimited area endorsement.
14.4 If the endorsement is required before revalidation an application should be made to the MCA Seafarer Training and Certification Branch (see Paragraph 9 Application procedure and Annex F).

Just spoke to the MCA and for the OOW unlimited an oral exam is needed.
Thanks,
Ben

so if you have an OOW 3000 they give you the M200 but if you have the much higher OOW unlimited you have to take an oral to get the M200?
Bonkers!

Done the course prep at Warsash a while back now though.
The best advice I can give is invest in a Mcneils seamanship examiner book, for mates/Masters.
If you know the answeres in the book (most of them!) you will pass.
When I did my Masters Orals, there was a group of 6 or 7 of us who would spend 1/2 the day just going through the book, plus the bouyage cards, and light cards etc etc. We were all well prepared and most of us passed.
Good luck where/when ever you do orals is also helpfull!
