Professional Charter Association PCA
At the end of last year I mentioned the Professional Charter Association-
The PCA is a non- profit making organisation which promotes and protect, the interests of its members and the safety of passengers, crews and vessels at all times. Charterer’s interests are upheld and the PCA ensures that its members operate within or exceed national regulations covering Charter Vessels.

I have been a member for the past year and found the links to other operators is a bonus. They have recently formatted a presentation type folder for MCA inspections which has a memorandum of understanding with the MCA about the procedures for inspecting our boats. We can also pre book an annual inspection at a time and location to suit all. The flag recognition and folder presentation is a great help to us as operators with the MCA.
I have been speaking with the chairperson (notice PC speak) and we are always interested in new members. From memory I believe we have only three RIB operators and increasing it will be a bonus to everyone. Recently several members have been liaising directly with the MCA over coding issues which has given us some help( appreciate this is a massive area under change/review)
We can also gain discounts on safety equipment and some other areas all held within a members area. Other areas of interest have been speakers in areas of MAIB and VAT.
Anyone interested please follow through the above link - I am sure I have omitted loads

Just a small update on other areas of interest which come about through PCA membership apart from coding issues and discounts
The PCA are invited to LIFE SAVING EQUIPMENT & RIBS – TRAINING DAY as part of the YDSA training(The Yacht Designers & Surveyors' Association). Marine Surveyors & Marine Designers
This is being offered to members at reduced costs and includes life saving equipment, with a presentation at NorWest and presentation and factory tour of MST who build RIBs (commercial and military) This is being held in Liverpool so not aimed just at us Southerners
Again anyone interested please follow links to PCA site Professional Charter Association | PCA | Yacht & Sailing Charters
The only link I have is being a member and I use YDSA as my licensing authority to MCA

I am keen to see more RIB operators joining the PCA and as the AGM is due in the next month and want to learn what other operators see when looking at PCA as a body.
What would operators want/expect from membership?
What are the positives and negatives?
General views and if you are keen not to show publicly then pm me as I wish to go to the AGM with new ideas for RIB operators. I know there is a discussion to have a dedicated RIB deputy/vice as presently we appear under power

Professional Charter Association
We have now joined the PCA, a like minded group of Professional Charter Operators that have a common aim.
A pleasure to be onboard with like minded professionals!

Ian and all
I don't really know anything about this Association other than what is on their website, so have a few questions.
They have a MLA logo on nearly every page of their website, are they a MLA member?
They have a RYA logo on most pages of their website, are they a RYA affiliated Club or part of the RYA or accredited by the RYA in any way?
They also show the BMF logo throughout their website, same question, are they a BMF member or a BMF association?
I am not saying they aren't but I have never heard of their involvement with the BMF, RYA or MLA.

Hi Doug, not wishing to undo the good already done I will ask the association chair to contact you direct , I am aware they have been at recent RYA, MCA meetings covering the reviews on MGN280.

Doug, I have been asked to respond in my capacity as Vice Chair RIBS, as the Chairman is laid up in bed and apologises for not calling in person.
Thank you, yes you were correct in your observations, the PCA are not members in their own right but through their association as part of YBDSA plus having a working relationship with these organisations.
The PCA members are mainly all active charter operators who are themselves members in their own right of the organisations you have identified.
The PCA website has now been changed to reflect this as “useful links for more information on the marine industry contact the organisations below”.
It was not the PCA’s intention to misrepresent their status with these groups; we thank you again for identifying this shortcoming and would welcome you as a future member.

Merry Christmas to you too buddy and a prosperous new year!
I hope Santa didn't put you on his naughty list for that terrible case of logo abuse
