Public Liability / Professiopnal Indemnity Insurance for freelance Skippers

Hi All,

Just a bit of advice and inpout sought really....

Most will be aware that as a 'coach' delivering RYA courses, there is insurance available at very reasonable rates for individuals working oin a freelance or self employed basis. As an Instructor working for an RYA centre, that centre should also have the appropriate professional indemnity / public liability insurance to cover itself and those working on its behalf - i.e. the instructors (whether employed or freelance).

My question is :-

Is anyone aware of competetive professional indemnity and / or public liability insurance for Skippers operating (for example) pleasure trips, day cruises or sight seeing tours in UK waters.

Costs seem astronomical this year and I am wondering if any others working freelance as a Skipper have taken out public liability or professional indemnity on a personal basis and would be willing to share the underwriter / broker or company's details with me...

All info gratefully received...

With thanks...

Gordon...

Gordon - I looked at this last year and decided that it wasnt worth the expenditure. Heath Lambert worked out some figures but for a tiny amount of turnover in non-RYA courses they wanted around £700 p.a. from memory.

I tried a few other sources and all were the same. I am retired so I thought "why bother" - and I didnt! I'm happy to do the courses that get offered.
