Do you get much interest at £80 per day? I pay at least double that (... but then, I am very fussy about who I work with)

Unfortunately
That 80 quid a day is quite a common rate in the Solent also.

Well I pay £100/day for a PB2 instructor. More for those that hold higher qualifications. I don't know anybody that would work for £80 a day in the Solent.

It's good to hear that you pay more and that there are no PBI's willing to work for less.
NAVSAR were willing to publish a day rate which is unusual. My comments to SEA Skills, which I have made before in these forums, are that his rates are very nice, but not typical of the rates in areas with more schools in competition with each other.
Good news is that any PBI looking for work now has three leads and starter rates.
Out of interest what would you pay for a Commercial Power Yachtmaster, APBI for 10 years with a passion for enabling safety and improving people as boat drivers.

Slightly off topic, has anyone added up the money that the RYA courses cost to get to instructor, I reckon it will take more than a couple of seasons to get a return on your investment

From my experience, the going rate in the South West is £80-£100/day for a Level 2 instructor, £100-£120/day for a advanced instructor and £120-£150/day for a Yachtmaster/Shorebased instructor.
You should be able to get upto level 2 instructor level for around £1000 (assuming previous boating experience), so break even point would be 10-12.5 days.

You'd think you could also afford to pay for trade membership then too

RYA Powerboat Instructors Needed
Hi Rogue Wave. Starting rate with us, £200/day. (Our business model is probably a bit different from many of the bigger schools, and it wouldn't work for everyone, but we're happy with it)
Boats and Outboards - that's a fair point. I was a trade member before, probably before you joined. My circumstances changed, and I've been away from the forum for a while. SeaSkills is a smaller part of my life at the moment, and last week I re-registered with RIBnet in my own name - that is what I plan to use in future on here. I've logged in now with that new registration
Ian (SeaSkills)

We might consider you for a years internship until you get some meat on your CV.
No salary and you have to do all the scrub jobs as well.
Free food, unlimited supply of XO and Magners and a ticket for the lap dancing club on a Friday night.
Accommodation provided as long as Porgy and Bess don't mind you kipping down with them.

You Know me so well! we might have a deal here
Sounds good but I must insist on the following 3 Caveats:
1. Under no circumstances is Roguetta to be told of my whereabouts
2. The XO must be Hennessy, Camus or Otard
3. The Lap Dancers must be Wimmen
4. Porgy and Bess have to share their truffles with me
5 You pay for my Discalculia tablets

Rogue, I boldly suggest your talents are wasted as a PB2 instructor. You're clearly the kind of guy the RYA requires to deliver the Celestial Navigation classroom sessions for the Ocean Yachtmaster qualification.
Dust down yer Almanac, dig out yer sight reduction tables, present yerself at the Pink Palace carrying a sextant and a pair of dividers and just pray to god your arrival doesn't clash with one of their masonic nights otherwise number three above is, at best, 50/50

1. Agreed
2. That's a given.
3. Maybe. This is Wales we're talking about.
4. Porgy and Bess say no to sharing their trough. They say you're not fit to eat with pigs. I stuck up for you. I said you was.
5. Not sure. I'm having trouble working out the cost of these tablets.
