Hi James, just seen the stolen note,
Do universal have cameras on the exit so we can know what car pulled it out. Ian

Stolen RIB

Yes they do have CCTV but not great. We think it was a blue Rodeo pickup truck but with a snug top on the rear left the yard at 2008 yesterday evening.

Gutted for you.

Fingers crossed it turns up in one piece...and insurers dont dither. If you get probs on any claim let me know - its what I do/did and have helped a couple of RIBNETers on claims.

Maybe worth a couple of hours driving round quiet lanes within a 15 mile radius - they wont want to have towed it far & I'd expect the engine/trailer & bits to be what they really want -hulls are too hard to shift...

Pete

Hi there
Maybe a long shot, but it could be worth calling the port security office at the Portsmouth ferry terminal and giving them a description.
Sadly its very easy to take a rib onto one of the x-channel ferries without being stopped and questioned as to its legitimacy.

We went from Portsmouth to Le Havre last July & we were given a good going over by the port police. They took the serial numbers of the engines, HIN, checked the insurance docs & SSR cert. All these were checked against our passports, quite reassuring

Stolen RIB

Thanks for all your offers of help. I might well take you up on that if there are any problems. Our insurers are quite good actually so hopefully there will be no further problems. The most annoying thing is that all our ribs have live trackers on..... except that one which is/was waiting for another replacement GPS antenna!

The boat had a new 250hp Verado fitted so I am sure this is what they wanted, how they got the clamp off is amazing, we have two per boat and they are massive!

Lets see what happens, i'll have to change my signature to 7 boats available for now!!

Cheers

Is that just an unlucky coincidence? Or could someone have known that...

Good to hear, and hopefully it will continue that way. I dont think any genuine boater will begrudge being stoped and questioned.

I personally have trailered 3 different ribs and a large sport fisher through the ferry terminal over the last couple of years (not to mention a nearly new mini digger, a Bobcat, umpteen trailer loads of building materials etc..) and unfortunately have not been stopped once. Plenty of times without the trailers but never stopped whilst towing.

Its a shame as rather than stopping Mr and Mrs Smith, retired postmasters, leaving to spend two weeks at their holiday home in the Dordogne they should make a point to stop more of the unusual vehicles heading out of the country, especially ones towing 'expensive' looking items like boats plant etc..

Anyway, i shall keep an eye out around the usual haunts over this side...you never know.

Simon

Stolen RIB picture

Some photos of one of our RIBs are now displayed on the stolen rib part of the forum. The only difference is the one that was stolen had a Fusion stereo and iPod dock and a Verado outboard. Other than that totally identical. Thanks for keeping your eyes pealed, although I suspect it maybe on its way abroad!
