WiSe Training
I have been made aware of a one day course on the 10th March in Poole, run by the WiSe organisation. It concerns the interaction with marine wildlife (or not) and would be of interest to commercial operators and other boat owners.
Please see Home - WiSe Scheme for further info
The cost is £60+Vat
Please PM me and I will send contact info
Regards
Steve

i don't understand why people don't consider parking etc when choosing venues.

Is there no public transport that you could use? Park the car up somewhere safer and get the bus the rest of the way?

I'll mention it on Saturday and see what they say. I'm sure if there is demand, they would be happy to do it

SPR, There is limited parking at Sighthill Campus, but some in the surrounding area (e.g. Sighthill Industrial Estate). The area doesn't have the best reputation but an old banger like yours would probably be fine! A bit further away you could park at Hermiston Gate and walk up (less than a mile), or perhaps best park at the Riccarton park and ride and get the bus in (about 5 mins on the bus).

I have decided to give it a miss...It might be ok, I might get access to car park inside...but tbh I will wait till another venue is arranged this year or next...Last year it would cost £30 this year it's £60 ...I not a commercial operator but thought would be an interesting course.
i had my old banger from new and it's only down 90,000 miles not bad for a 2000 car.
Although I was told last year it was still worth £4500 in open market, since it is a Quattro..

As a follow up on this - Myself , Steve and his full time skipper went along. There were poeple in attendance from all over the UK- from sailing charters ,canoe expedition companies , coasterring and of course us powerboaters. A good point was made about should this sort of thing be included in the PB2 training ( I'n not an instructor, but from what I gather its not really if at all mentioned as its not included by the RYA ?)
Speaking for just myself I found it very interesting to understand the impact and how boats/people can and do influence wildlife behaviours.
Recognising the point at which we do have an effect was made clear along with the legal aspect of what the implications are of being reckless----six months in jail if you want it ? plus a hefty old fine !
We discussed pretty much eveything you may hope to see round the coast of the UK .
Key points for me - Basking sharks - if you see one there may well be more so keep a look out as they cruise alot at depths of a metre.
I can tell the differance between grey & common seals now !
I hope I get the chance to use the knowledge now ! - as I am sure Steve does too (eventually) .
Pete

At the sailing club our we issue the Wise guides to the students and do a 15 min talk on Powerbost courses.
Hence why I was going to do the course, so I could help the existing wise person.
regards

Good news of your involvement and support - I am sure there are( like yourself) the courses/instructors that do talk about it, but opinion round the table was its not generally talked about by most.
