Acceptable behaviour on RIBnet

There's a search facility and a few threads on the topic, including trackers for on and off water.

...interestingly we have a similar tool on here which lets you find the many threads on trackers...
a newcomer asks a sensible question on a rib forum and gets shot down..........by a member of the RIBnet admin team as well, is it surprising people are posting less and less?

I'm with Humber P4vwl on this one. Sarcasm however well intentioned to a newcomer hardly promotes inclusion or discussion.
Whilst it may bore the regulars to revisit topics seemingly endlessly in their view sometimes a few fresh ideas/new technology do pop up in an old subject. The guy might just be looking for a chat or to pick up contacts local to him or genuinely interested in trackers (trackerfetish) who knows ?

Bring it on.

+1 it's not good when the admins start being rude to new members on the forum. This is exactly the reason why I hardly ever post on here now.

Really? Is everyone so sensitive that a light hearted suggestion that a new poster uses the search facility before posting causes major offence?

If you are a newcomer it doesn't read as a light hearted suggestion though does it?

John

Put yourself in the shoes of the new member. You ask a sensible question in a polite way and you get that sarcastic response. Not the best of ways to welcome a new person to the forum, and even worse that it came from an admin.

The new member may not even be aware of the search facility. It took me less than 2 minutes to find an ebay link to a tracker device similar to what many on here use and post that as an answer. If poly had to respond, would it not have been better for him to have done exactly that rather than post his sarcastic response.

I'll get my coat

As to the "other discussion" on the subject of rudeness to new members asking questions, or those that have particular types of boat, this has been brought up previously on here. It seems to be a minority that partake in these "attacks" on individuals, but I doubt it will change. That's why I now spend most of my time on another boating forum, and only look on here occasionally. I expect this observation will get me banned from this forum, hey ho.

chris.moody - there's no reason to keep the other forum identity an open secret so you can post it openly if you like - save you a lot of PMing. BTW, do you remember anyone getting banned from RIBnet for anything other than spamming or being (very) abusive? It strikes me as a little unfair to say that you think you might be banned for expressing an opinion.

I am aware of one member that told me he got banned for a period of time. He doesn't strike me as a spammer or a particularly abusive person. I didn't ask the specific details.
