Yes it would be possible.
It would take a lot of persuading to convince me that they are anything more than a pointless waste of space though, so you're unlikely to see them here anytime soon!

Maybe I am behind the times but it seems very, very infrequent in my life where I have heard or seen the word "avatar" used in print or spoken.
What is it that is driving the use of it as the current fad buzzword?

I didn't realise it was a recent buzz word. My use of it goes back several years and I relate it to the attaching of pictures to something. In forums a little pic of ones self lets say. In FPS computer games it can be used to help identify friend and foe. Its just a little graphic then over someones head to make up for the inadequacies of computer graphics in general.

Seriously I think avatars would be more trouble than they are worth.
They can be quite good fun, but on ‘other site’ I visit can push the boundaries of good taste. And could end up as one more thing to be moderated and debate about what is acceptable visual entertainment.
God I’m getting old and grumpy!
