What about 'giving' Avatars to not only paid-up RIB.net Supporters but also to:

1. Members with X number of posts;
2. Members who have been members for X amount of time.

What do folk think?

Sir.. you are a gentleman of taste.. and true acumen.

Might I suggest our gracious leader was perhaps a little brusque in dismissing so many loyal subjects in one fell swoop, for such a simple pleasure, such as avatars.. although I'm sure those subjects understand for his true dictatorial needs, lining ones own pockets comes first ofcourse....'ahem' *sweeping red carpet he walks on* but even he.. may recognise that there is more to be gained by acquiescing to the humble requirements of the lower order troops on the ground for the benefit of their posts ..which in reality only add to his encumbent well being, by the fact they may continue to post on this site, and swell its numbers to his benefit.. and now the lords prayer Damn I forgot ...Which dictator ever believed in God

It *still* cheeses me off that we pay to become a rib.net supporter so that we can upload our avatar, and the default setting is for everyone NOT TO SEE THEM!

Stupid.

I admit it is a bit mean, but it made me laugh! I've had my fun now and turned them on for everyone to enjoy

If anyone would prefer not to see them they can turn them off in their User Control Panel under "Thread Display Options"

John

I think paying just to have an avatar is a bit silly to be fair, this is certainly the first forum I've come across with such a policy.

If your concerned about additional bandwidth costs (minimal as they are with 10kb or so files ) then simply allow people to host them elsewhere, the function is already built into in VB

In my opinion the RIBnet supporter subscription is basically a donation rather than gaining access to additional features. I mean, very few people need a 500 pm limit And I very much doubt the ability to have an avatar will make more people sign up.

I would suggest a variably donation amount with an acknowledgement in the form of a user group change would be just as, if not more effective in gaining funds when used in conjunction with the existing subscriptions. Apply say a £5 minimum.

The trade subscription is another matter of course, and generally has a purpose other than donating

I completely agree.

There's no pressure for anyone to be a "supporter", and I'm not planning to limit any features so that people need to be a supporter to use RIBnet fully.

Like I said about avatars in post #4 of this thread:
