Avatars on RIBnet
What are avatars?
Avatars are small pictures that appear below your user name when you post a message. You can use them to give yourself a little more personality in cyberspace, tell people something about yourself, show off your boat, or whatever you choose.
Avatars? we don't need any steenging Avatars
To turn avatars off, go to your User options and scroll down to "Thread Display Options" where you can deselect "Show avatars".
How do I get an avatar?
Avatars are available to RIBnet supporters and Trade members. If you qualify, go to your User control panel and you will find an option that says "Edit avatar" which will allow you to upload a suitable image of your choice.
What can I use as an avatar?
Any suitable jpg or gif image no larger than 120 by 120 pixels. You can either make this yourself, or find one to download from various sites (try a Google search for avatar and loads will come up).
All avatars must be "office safe" and suitable for family viewing. Don't push your luck because if I have cause to remove your avatar I will also cancel your paid subscription without notice or refund. Assume that I am easily offended - if in doubt, choose something else.
Enjoy!
John

I like to think of it more as a free gift for those people generous enough to support RIBnet

No, the default setting is avatars not showing. People will need to opt in, rather than opt out.

Actually I reckon it's quite an elegant solution. It allows those who like avatars, want to have one, and want to see them, to do all of that without requiring those who don't want them to work out how to turn them off.

Don't forget that RIBnet is a benevolent dictatorship. I try to please most of the people some of the time . . .

Careless talk costs lives
Careful mate - His Lord High Emperorship might, even now, be making a space for revolutionaries in front of a wall...
