Custom Avatars

Can RIB.net allow custom avatars to be displayed under your username whenever you post?

I know it is a feature incorporated in vBulletin.

It would brighten things up somewhat.

JK wasn't keen the last time we asked because the server space it would take up and add nothing to the posts. However you could ask him for green blobs (worthy of a search on Ribnet for the full story as world wars have been started over lesser arguments)

It's a quesion that comes up from time to time, but it's not something that I plan to add any time soon. Server space isn't a problem, but I have still to be convinced that they add anything other than a bit of pointless fluff.

I think that most people are happy with things as they are, but as ever I'm open to persuasion!

No I ain't

I like Avatars why don't we have a poll. I have always been fond of pointless bit's of fluff......just as long as they weren't looking for a long term relationship.

Anybody that cares to look on the Boatmad site can see how charming and entertaing they can be. I love my Boatmad Avatar it makes me happy evry time I see it.

It's a picture of Johnny Fuller when he was in college

What me worry!

I've been considering reinstating the blobs on an individual basis for special people

I think the idea of being able to choose to turn them off is a good one. If it is possible.

I personally think they can be a bit of fun, but as always some people take the fun a little nearer the limits than others.
The consequence of this is that I allow my 8 and 10 year olds to browse Ribnet freely, but do not allow them access to Boatmad unless I am there to supervise, which is a shame because they like the videos of fast boats with rock music backing tracks.
Although the avatars are of course not the only reason, as the content of posts on Boatmad can also be a little less suitable.

I’m not moaning by the way, as I realise that neither site is specifically targeted at a family audience.

Nasher.

Well John can Admin what Avators are not suitable anyway, I for one would like to see them, as many are an amusing addition to someones profile, and it will brighten the place up a bit. I dont think we should judge ourselves by other forums... saying that I've never surfed boatmad

What me worry!

Well it wouldn't be a genuine post from me if it didn't have one typo or granmatical error .... But I suspect it will cheer the FGT up !

I'm not opposed to "fun" I just find that brightly coloured and animated avitars distract from the supposedly interesting and useful content of the pages... perhaps its just me - in which case so long as I can turn it off then I don't mind. If there is a funny picture or image that is relevant - then stick it in the thread...

Nasher.

Totally agree Boatmad is for the grown ups, Ribnet forums probably more for the family boaters,When the young uns get older and get more into boats they then can change over to Boatmad.
There you are that'll get a reaction!
