facebook

yep just started last week, seem a good way to keep in contact with people, although some people puy way too much info about them self on it.

there was a radio show here last week discussing how companys and recruitment agencies use it and a few other sites like bebo to do back ground checks on potential employees.

I was wondering whether a RIB.net group, if set up on Facebook, would be useful.

Of course, I don't want to divert traffic from this forum but Facebook does appear to have some good features.

Just a thought for the powers-that-be.....

OK, I've been meaning to have a look at Facebook for a while so I signed up today.

What does "Find friends using your email address" mean? I like to think I'm reasonably clueful when it comes to computers and the internet but that's got me baffled and it's the first thing that Facebook wants me to do.

If you have an e-mail address with Yahoo Mail, Hotmail, Gmail, etc. and you use their web-based e-mail service, you can put in your e-mail address and Facebook will use your online address book to see which of your contacts are already registered with Facebook.

Call me a cynic if you like - but I think things like facebook, myspace and so on are the source of the majority of junk spammed email.

I joined myspace 9 months ago and had very few unwanted emails at that point. Within 6 months it was so bad that I decided to just change my email address and bounce the old one.

Normally, I would tend to agree with you. But having used Facebook for a couple of weeks, I would stick my neck out and suggest it is one of the more responsible websites. I don't think they are in the business of harvesting e-mail address for a few $$$s.

Their sights are set a lot higher I reckon. World domination.

I usually hate all these 'Myspace' type things but Facebook is exceptional.

Its the only one i'll use and practically, if your at school or university, you have to have it.
Even the Old Boys comimitee at my old school are using it to organise events and such and as a fresher at Uni your told to sign up or miss out big time on news and events from the students union and all the local bars and clubs.
It is huge and works very well.

Facebook

I've been using it for a while - found it great compared to other networking sites. It works well in that you have to accept people to be a contact, this stops any Tom, Dick and Harry seeing your data.

I'd be up for a Ribnet group on Facebook.

Al

I don't mind setting up the RIB.net group on Facebook but it might be better if JK did it. Or gave his blessing....
