I don't think anyone mentioned admins abusing their positions, just suggesting that admins should be seen as being cleaner than clean not abusive towards people who are genuinely trying to help or ask for it.
As an engineer in the navy for over 22 years I don't profess to being an office walla unless you count the cramped offices in frigates? And that also helps in being hardy as there's no bigger or harsh p1ss taking than goes on there, but being abusive towards someone you don't know is taking it a bit far.

It was only on facebook I spoke to him and he's gone from there now.
From what I could gather he had up sticks and set himself up a new life and was getting on fine
I might stick around lol, I sold my SR4 ages ago and naturally stopped using the forum.
Used to have some good crack, hope that hasn't gone?

I didn't hear anyone accusing Admins of abusing their positions either as I couldn't hear over the general background whining that was taking place. I can't recall a single case of a member asking for help and being "abused" or even mocked by an Admin (or any other member of RIBnet for that matter).
"Cleaner than clean" - WTF? Am I in an UK election campaign now? Bugger that, I'd rather play piano in a whore house.
For one of "Brutain's hardy sons", you seem to take it all a bit too much to heart. A suggestion from one who has negotiated the currents of RIBnet over the years - go with the flow, you'll get there around the same time as the lads who are paddling upstream...

If people feel that they don't want to post on RIBnet in case someone disagrees with them then that's a shame, but it is OK for people to disagree. If we all thought the same as each other there wouldn't be much discussion going on.
It has always been this way. Have a look at the posting guidelines: http://www.rib.net/forum/f31/general...ines-4760.html
They have been the same for over a decade, and have been around a lot longer than most of the people posting in this thread!

John,
I think the point is that the "Admins" or "Moderators" (well, one of them) isn't simply "Administering" or "Moderating" but is always the first to disagree with many posts, put in multiple quotes pulling apart posts in a, quite frankly, unpleasant and unnecessary fashion.
A bit like the argumentative bloke down the pub who always has an opinion on something and always has to have the last word.
Isn't the role of a moderator to observe?
I'm on the FB group too but think that ribnet is still a very useful site and won't be leaving it in preference to FB.
Cheers All

I'm glad you're staying. TBH, I hate those "multiple quotes" too. It's the way he uses them to divide up an incoherent rant into it's constituent parts and then obliterates it with raw logic and facts that riles me the most. His biggest drawback is having an IQ like the north face of the Eiger. It just puts sensible people off tackling him. I get that.
I still wouldn't let him drive my RIB though...

No, it isn't. JK made that very clear and some people need to wake up to the reality that it isn't the case. We're RIBnet members who have been asked to keep the forum running smoothly on a day to day basis. Shame on anyone who thinks we are automatia who "do the needful"
I personally feel the need to speak my mind more openly from now on. I've been holding my tongue...

I've never understood why people take offence at multiple quotes. When you're replying to several points in a post it seems like good sense to me

I like to think of it as a bit like someone who is prepared to take the time to check his facts and marshal a reasonable argument.

Mostly yes. But that doesn't stop the mods from taking a full part in the discussions. When Poly points out that there may be a flaw in someone's argument he is absolutely not doing that as a mod. That's just him.

As I've said before, the internet is a big place and there's room for everyone. It's great when people find RIBnet useful and enjoy being part of it, but I don't take it personally if people want to play elsewhere as well. I'm sure there will always be common ground somewhere.

Well how about we try some new mods to lighten the burden on the current ones? I suspect there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes that we don't appreciate so if it is a burden surely it should be shared across the community??
