I've always preferred to have a small team of moderators. We may have more in the future, but I'm not planning to recruit any in the short term. Thanks for the thought though

Tbh i wonder how many times the message in this thread can be raised and ignored by those ' with the power '

I think if it the message keeps being raised and dismissed as ' not being real ' the forum will only ever be in decline.

There are far more options out there nowadays for boaters to interact.

Yet a) you're still here and b) the forum is showing no sign of decline. It's a mysterious world sometimes

i'm still trying to figure out where the "rude" was in the post that spawned this discussion. I'm American and I wouldn't have been insulted and you know how much more thin skinned we are...

I have to say that I feel Rib-net is being over modulated and some threads are just being closed off for the sake of someone exercising some power. Its almost getting to the point where the mods should have Rib-net all to themselves!

Moderation on RIBnet is done with a light touch and it's very rare for threads to get closed. The only one that I can think of recently has now been removed at the request of the two protagonists.

Can you point me to some examples of where things have been over moderated, by PM if you prefer, and I'll have a look at them.

In general John, It just seems to me the the mods have more to say than the rest of us and probably do the least boating. If I had to go back over previously discussed things,I would be here for days and I just don't have that time available.
It was aptly named Mod-net at a recent get together
Anyway said my bit n heading to the pub.

Flying the flag for RIBnet

So actually you made a sweeping claim that you can't substantiate because it's not true. You then change tack and say that the mods contribute too much to discussions and throw in a snide comment about the amount of boating you think they do.

Do you see any irony there?

Ever heard the phrase

Perception is reality

It means just because you see things one way is not the same for everyone.

Seems like those ' in power' flatly refuse to accept there even could be any issue as it's not how they see things within thier little empire.

Much like hitler thought he was doing the right thing, perception was his reality......

Henry eighth killed a few wives..that was fine too..they deserved it.

JK and the gang can't ever be wrong or called into question...So hey let's not bother.... Anyone who disagrees is clearly wrong..... The gang said so......

I've cancelled my trade membership as a result of recent issues not being taken seriously. The members are raising a genuine concern and weather or not they are substantiated or not they should be taken seriously and at least investigated or be acknowledged - sooner or later the powers that be will have to deal with this issue once and for all, by the looks of things it will be too late by then and the members who contribute the most will be lost....

As a supporter on here I value all aspects of Ribnet.
John maybe there has to be a greater deal of anonymity regarding the mods that help administer with you as there comments can never be seen as personal and without a hidden agenda by some people who may have a problem accepting honest debate with others.
So when the present mods give up do not show their replacements as mods on their profile therefore allowing them to enter debate as ordinary members with nobody aware of there volunteer work with Ribnet.
Posted in an open spirit and good intentions for the continuation of Ribnet.

There does seem to be a problem with people's perception of what being a mod means, but I don't think that having secret mods is the answer. It is something I'm trying to work out though.
