No. They can see your posts still - and you still see a placeholder for that persons post too. It's not ideal, TBH.

The blocked user name appears as normal but instead of their post, it reads "This message is hidden because ...
............... is on your ignore list"

It's better than reading meaningless, misleading bollocks though.

I find it quite easy to just not read the posts that are obviously bollocks.

Probably so Nasher but you still have to read a part of them to see if they are obviously bollocks. Now I don't have to disseminate what is or isn't bollocks, he's just blocked.

I'm impressed that I appear to have managed to start the topic without even trying, so you are welcome Paddlers.

Assuming of course that I'm not the "irritant"

Ironically, the Subject could easily have been the OP - he's been giving out the same (sound) advice for 13 years. It could have been his most popular thread ever!!

Certainly not Nasher. There's just one person who seems to be constantly looking for arguments on numerous posts not just on this forum.
Low self esteem apparently...

I see everybody is getting along just swimmingly.

There's two sides to every story, some people just happen to be a prick in both of them.

The worrying thing is this guy floods the forum with misinformation & when everyone is ignoring him any newbies will probably be inclined to believe his random pish. I got warned off by admin for calling him out. Isnt it time he was booted again? Surely as a forum in general we should all be encouraging newcomers to keep their kit as well looked after & reliable as possible, not encouraging folk to leave generally accepted maintenance tasks until something breaks.
Every post where someone is asking basic advice hes stating the opposite of the accepted normal good advice from long experienced members continually looking for an argument.

I agree. But also think it's important that we don't exclude just because someone has a contra view. But I suppose the line is perhaps whether it's bollocks, or utter bollocks.

Or perhaps dangerous bollocks . For me he devalues one of the few forums I'm on and the temptation call him out for some of the argumentative contra to good advice posts and the apparently endless video 'contributions' he posts.
It's the same terwat who had the little cabin cruiser a few years back isn't it ??
I do like this forum and some of its longstanding characters , the banter and the knowledge they sometimes share.

I guess this thread must be a split from another one somewhere, as I don't remember commenting in here.

I can only assume who the previously banned user is, but if they've been banned before, why not just ban their latest account?

Someone could easily become stranded by listening to his 'dont bother servicing' advice so i think dangerous is a fair description.

Like you I enjoy the forum & reading folks generally good helpful advice but this guy is spoiling a good resource for newbies. & yes previously a little cabin boat owner.

It's not difficult to work out from this thread who the previously banned member is & what his previous user name was although iirc this is his 3rd incarnation & his 2nd was short lived. No idea why the mods tolerate him & actually protect him when its obvious he is totaly intent on causing friction & driving traffic to his u tube channel. Perhaps as the forum has been quieter of late the fact he fills up space with his endless pi$h helps the circulation numbers.
Seems a lot of regular posters are going to mute him but that leaves new members at the mercy of his poor advice

Perhaps there should be a poll to keep or bin him

I was going to avoid making any more comments about this member. However, whilst I agree that "calling him out" for the bollocks he post should be what happens, the forum member who does call him out leaves themselves open to criticism of being petty, childish and at one time a bully, as has happened to me on more than one occasion. So from my point of view, it's much easier to block the bollocks he posts so I don't have to read it.
