I like the pub analogy !
1. There will always be people who will pick fights with doormen
2. Pink and fluffy: No thanks
3. It is perfectly possible to enjoy a quiet drink and chat here IF you want to.

I propose three stickies:
"IS MY BOAT PVC OR HYPALON/CSM?"
"HOW TO PATCH HYPALON/CSM"
"HOW TO PATCH PVC"
Minimal clutter and it eliminates a lot of repeat posts. Post it under the "RIBs" section for maximum exposure.

Don't forget that one of the reasons people join forums is to interact and communicate with others.
Stickies are a good idea, but they don't always satisfy the whole need. In fact you don't even need a forum to answer questions if you can use Google.
A good forum should provide more than just answers to questions.
It would be both inclusive and nice for regulars to respond to newbie questions by answering them as well as pointing out Stickies / Search facility.
Not only that, existing members can expand on the answers with real life experience or point the person in a direction they haven't even thought of.
I've asked some pretty daft newbie questions in the past - which may well have been answered by Googling or doing a search. However its the rich comment, re-questioning and range of experience that you sometimes get that makes a forum a good forum.
The future of a forum is dependent upon newbies turning into experienced regulars.

I have been on this site for a few months. Thanks to an introduction I have just signed up to the Facebook forum as well. My interests lie in learning from others, maybe meeting up and selling bits I don't need. What I have found from both sites is loads of information from just browsing, mostly from people who have a load more experience than me. What I hate is Political correctness (like making comment just because a 'scantily clad' female is shown in a video or. arrogance and rudeness. I have had enough of that to last a life time! I am very grateful to those who administer each site, and look forward to making my choices and contribution. Keep it up Girls and boys!

Thanks, I enjoy it too. You'll be familiar with our basic "rules" - Trade Pays, no politics, no religion and no personal abuse. We base our other Mod decisions around the knowledge that RIBnet is read by family members - wives & wains.
Was that you who posted the "Cold Wet Tee-shirt Girl" photo on RHIBs?

As I have just found out, post get deleted with no reason given, no politics, not swearing, no religious content. just a comment about the way a mod replied to a post.
if mods want to be respected, give some respect, a PM as to why would have been nice. I can suspect why, but if i post it here it will be "moderated" as well i guess. Suffice to say i'm not impressed.

Unfortunately you fell foul of the newly revised posting guidelines. To be fair they hadn't been announced at the time, but you can catch up on them here:
