Opt out of seeing adverts

RIBnet relies on advertising revenue to keep the site running. However, unlike mosts sites, RIBnet gives you the option to chose whether you want to see the adverts on the RIBnet forums.

If you would prefer not to see the adverts then use your User Control Panel ("User CP" link in top left corner, or click here) to join the "No Adverts" group and the adverts will automagically disappear.

This option is open to all registered users. No strings attached.

why not have the advertisers have thier own section so we can choose to go look at offers and adverts if we please to, the current system is all on or all off but at least that way we can take a look if choose to

There's the trade announcements section where trade members can blatantly plug their wares, but it doesn't seem to be all that popular!

You can always turn the ads back on if you want in a couple of clicks . . .

Yes but no but...

Does the switching off of adverts mean loss of revenue for the site?

It won't make any difference for the pay-per-click adverts if you're not clicking on them. It will obviously affect they pay-per-view adverts though.

I'm guessing that the proportion of people who will actually opt out should be quite small. We'll have to see how it goes.

Cool.

Actually have gotten used to them so no biggie really.

If it means the site is less of a £££ burden then worth supporting.

Why not just allow those who pay membership the option of turning it off?

Promotes membership and may counter any loss of advertising revenue?

Because my generosity and benevolence is unsurpassed

This, of course, is subject to dictatorial whim and may change at any time.

Enforce it and use the proceeds to organise something. Could even ask the forum what. T shirts for members, flags to fly, I like that, join and get a flag, the only way to get it. Would mean we would know who you can go and say hi to.
