£20

The inbox limit is a bit tight at 75 messages. The www.boatmad.com forum allows 150 messages

Yes, but you're much chattier over here...

£20 - a mere bagatelle to a man of your means. And it will help JK maintain his little fleet and cover his medical expenses

Maybe I should copy some other forums and only allow paid up subscribers to use the PM system at all!

there's enough tosh gets posted in public unnecessarily without that! Could you add a filter so "You have a PM" is not allowed on the forum!

I'd agree to getting something in return for membership to encourage subscription... Ribnet flag/tshirt etc.

But pms can be useful sometimes to tell a member something that the world shouldn't see for important reasons. Safety for example.

If someone posts something like a picture or phone number not realizing the implications.

Would you still be able to send emails to members? If so everyone would just do that instead.

If not then the few of us paid up members won't be able to communicate with the unwashed so there wouldn't be as much point to us continuing to pay.

lose lose situation I think...

H-P,

As regards getting freebees from his Lordship, you're barking up the wrong tree on the Isle of Wight.

I have no idea how the software works so the following ideas are just that - ideas

Ribnet Members - similar to what they get now, but tightly cap their PM allowance and put a Posts per Day limit on them. Most NEVER post at all so it won't effect them at all. Two posts per day seems about right. Don't let them opt out of seeing the ads.

Ribnet Supporters - No limits on usage and a generous PM limit. I'd bung them a few decent smilies too, something cheeky the plebs don't have access to. (BTW boss, we need an "embarrassed" smilie, well, I do anyway). If doing this, I'd consider a cheaper cost, maybe £10 or £15??

Trade Members - Maybe two tiers, one cheaper type (£50) that would allow them to actively sell on the site, there's a bunch of tightwad whingers that might actually take it. The other type (£100) would give access to cheap ads or free listings and possibly a free "rotating" banner ad - i.e they get a week a year free or whatever. That kind of jazz.

expyred trayde membirs - Strictly Prohibited.

Redbay Supporters - Currently tightly controlled with a very exclusive membership of one. But it's the wrong one, it should be ME! I'd even pay extra for it, but I want a No Bilges clause built in to the contract.

I'd support a 'no escape' from the Bilges clause.

I dont think you want to discourage posters at all, well not ones that have been around a bit

Peeps can copy smilies from anywhere atm anyway so IMHO that would work or be an incentive to sign up for supportership infact neither are avatars .. just dont get me started .. I signed up to support the community more than anything else .. however the recession is biting

As a member I recognise the benefits to me of the other types of 'membership' in that I get the benefit of the 'collective' knowledge and can communictae with them. I do not see the point of having a specialist forum for ribbers and then stop the majority from 'posting' as without the ordinary everyday member the forum would loose its appeal and develop into trade site!!

whoops sorry

Sometimes my link to t'internet is tenuous and sometimes non existent
bit like my grip on reality really! So I don't reply to pm's at the time cos it takes too long, then when I have a good link I forget to look at them.
For the record I had no intention of paying to go on a PM system, I just felt it was a reasonable position to take when somebody was whingeing that they weren't getting enough for free. It certainly wouldn't bother me if I did not have the facility, but if I wanted it then why not pay.

Another thing is that it's free to advertise (private stuff) on here which is great as it keeps the swap shop feel, but I wouldn't have a problem giving 1 or 2 % of the sale proceeds to Ribnet if I ever sold something, on a voluntary basis , of course. Does anybody else think thats a good idea?

I'd certainly be interested in paying for membership If I got use of a 'chinscratcher' smilie

Oi!, if that was directed at me, then I wasn't whingeing (I'll leave that our expert from Wolverhampton ), I was simply comparing this site with another and in doing so, outlining how generous Mr Fuller is over on the darkside.

Yes, I'd be happy to contribute to that.

Now, while you're online, how about replying to that pm I sent you?

Yes and no .. I think that advertising here for us lesser mortals is good and the general credibility of the site helps all concerned both to buy and sell, but thats a factor of the contributors, not the Imperialist dictatorship ... There is no need to concede a sale percentage IMO unless you are a closet Boatmadder You might say we are a 'democratic good will congregation' without which the church and its benevolant dictatorship would crumble .... Mon the peepul
