You can't stand still or someone will come along and steal your users.

No what usually happens is that someone starts to meddle and forgets their roots and THEN someone comes along and steals the users - Ebay is a classic example of someone meddling and driving people away!!!

He's got a valid point-I used to do 10-15 transactions a month via ebay. Now I don't use it for months at a time.

Oh.... get the better of yourself Polwart and just come out and say it .. Codders you are RIGHT ! woohoo ....

In fact .. I'd say I couldnt agree with you more BUT..... the things being talked about here are VERY very minor enhancements! Things that are already built into the software that runs this forum Which dont cost anything .. did you hear that Polwart ?? FFS the flipping buttons didnt even work right on the tool bars above until a few months ago

Dont get me wrong now .. I like the look of this forum too .. a lot .. its the little extra bits that are missing that would make it complete .. more flexible, and a better tool for all to post on .. now if we could only change the mindset of the fuhrer who charges you for avatars ..

I've changed the time before the "Last edited by" note appears to 10 minutes. Should give everyone enough time to proof read their posts.

I've also added a more prominent "Top of Page" link. Its's not a button, but it does fit into the page very neatly.

John

Woho! Very good. I wondered how I'd missed the wee 'Top' at the bottom of the page for so long; it's because I don't normally reach the bottom of a page. Once I reach the last post I move onto the next page, I don't bump into the bottom line.

Could we also have a function which won't allow new threads to be titled 'Help needed please' or similar

I find that annoying too. If you didn't need help you woudn't be asking for it!

Why mess about about with the simple, clean format.
I'm sure a lot of people who use this site, use itand continue to use it because of the format. A lot of us aren't computer nerds, we are using the forum to get help and info, follow other peples build threads etc. Its boats we are interested in, not computers.
KEEP IT SIMPLE...........

So why dont you post and contribute more often then? your type of posts bug me a bit, its not that I dont realise it goes on, but these forums need input, and I keep seeing posts of those who take it all , but put nothing in So why dont you share the benefit of your experience more often ,.. then perhaps you would be better qualified on how commentate on forum functionality

Ok random rant over

Maybe because
  • welcoming and encouraging posts like that! OR
  • he doesn't feel a need to comment on every post unless he has value to add OR
  • he has mastered the search function so doesn't need to regurgitate old questions...
But the forum layout etc - does need to work for both regular posters as well as those who prefer to browse.

When you fall off your soap box, thank Codders for his "welcome to Ribnet lessons" and please make sure you apply to JK for an assistants position.

Director or Dictator

Bigmuz 7,
Thanks for the pro active comment, just looking at your info, being from Cornwall I had to read your occupation twice, or maybe you spelt it wrong...

If you would rather I send in posts that don't really add anything to whats been said already, I could. But personally, I have too much else going on in my life.

Perhaps you should state that only life long ribbers, people with twenty years experiance etc should post on the forum, then go for it.

Thanks for your comments Bigmuz, you have made a quiet night shift on a rig in the North Sea go a bit quicker.

P.s Directors, down in Cornwall are called traffic wardens
