that is absolutely in the spirit of RibNet. JK runs it as a benevolent dictatorship.

He gets enough free publicity (search JBT and you will I am sure find numerous threads) that it will be worth his while.

Why should he not have to pay for trade membership he is always talking up his business and his boats on here.

I totally agree with closing the thread. If it were me I would have removed it.

Johns work - his call completley !- RIVA did not help himself through the course of the thread. If had been clearly titled it along the lines of - 'All ribnet members are welcome to have alook round the old VT site out of interest' , without putting a link to the JBT site in the post maybe it would all have been differant ..............................

The phrase you pay your money, you take your choice is true . Its not you dont pay your money, you take your choice. More than just the one post thought also doesn't help.

I totally agree with john, even rivas last post had a link to the website, perhaps if he had removed that things may have been different, I spoke to them when i was looking for a rib for a specific budget and got told........
"if you keep me on the phone for more than 20 minutes then the consultancy fee will be greater than your budget"

well that rubbed me right up the wrong way

i found them arrogant and that a quality i wont tolerate in anybody.
as for the comment about not getting business off ribnet thats bull,
ive bought loads of stuff off ribnet trade members and found them all particularly good and really keen to give free advice(thanks Paul Tilley particularly) unlike our friend.
Others may have different experience to me but i have found Ribnet an invaluable source of help. information, advice and banter, and i am more than happy to pay up as a supporter, perhaps some of the more regular posters who arent supporters should consider it

cheers John

How would you feel if I came along with an extension lead and ran my house from your power supply? It's the same thing.

As for proof of the benefits, my boat is currently in for repair with a business that has a trade membership-and the decision to use them was influenced by the fact that they supported the site. A good attitude goes a long way in atracting customers to a business.

Riva could learn a lot from that.

I look forward to the opening of your new site, containing as much knowledge exchange and help as this one does, with as much sense of a community, and then I will give you credit for having put in the same amount of work JK does with the only reward being the satisfaction of doing it.

Until the arrival of that site, I may or may not consider you a knobend. You choose.

£10 million boatyard doesn't pay the wages without customers-and an attitude like he showed in his last posts won't gain him any. It's far more likely to lose them.

I bet it's not worth £10 million now either....

I've met the guy twice at Ribex and on both occassions he came across as a prick. Don't think a lot of his boats either having been out on a couple.

In fairness I was treated very well by them - much better than the Scorpion mob!!!

Also in fairness I do think a trade membership should have been on the cards but all types of membership should be voluntary.

And who is this springtide git anyway? Seems to enjoy having a go at people!!!

I've had both experiances at JBT.

Jonny(Who I believe is RIVA but might be wrong) was polite and treated me like a proper customer when he caught me looking around the RIBs in the yard dreaming, as did one of the younger members of staff.

Jason wasn't/didn't on two occasions.
If I'd have had £50K in my back pocket I'd have gone elsewhere those times.

I actually wish them luck with the new venture, because lets face it they will need it in the current climate, and I hate to see any business go down.
I also like their 'second hand car lot' type approach which will put most first time buyers in a situation they are familiar with.

I think maybe this thread has got a little out of hand, but do also think its time for them to stump up for trade membership.
Maybe not because they get direct sales from Ribnet, but because they should be supporting a site that promotes their industry partly on their behalf.

Nasher.

But, who knows what's around the corner? The next day Nasher may have:

a. won the lottery/inherited a fortune
b. been asked for advice from a wealthy friend on where to buy a £50k RIB
c. wanted to sell his own RIB on Brokerage

By alienating Nasher, Jason will have lost his potential opportunity for Nasher's/Nasher's wealthy friend's business. Nasher may also have discouraged people from trading with RIVA through posting details of his bad experience with that business on here.
