Oh yeah. You'll get that with certain Facebook pages. You go back looking for more mean, bitchy, australocentric remarks and indiscretions and you find that the whole thing has been deleted. Never happened. All flowers and puppies over there now...
My work here is done

Banning members
Very rarely. Quite a lot of stuff gets shipped off to the bilges, but not much gets deleted at all.

Probably, but this isn't pretending to be a warm fluffy, cuddly place inhabited by pixies sprinkling fairy dust over everyone

Hey - this is where it happens! I have my own personal Black Helicopter to create Chemtrails over Yorkshire. I'm not ashamed to admit it...
Ultimately it's just us: JK (a.k.a. Lord Vetinari), Nos (The Enforcer), Poly (Mr. Small Print) and Me (The Teaboy). We run a decent pub and welcome all sorts - provided they don't start fights or do deals in the toilets. We'll even serve you Southern Softies a Banana Daiquiri, if you behave...
And if you don't? Well, as donegaldan (when he was with us) used to say:
"I have a can of Whoop-ass here with your name on it"

In fact, most of the deletions on here are for pointless posts with foul language in. There aren't many-and if the post does have something to add to the discussion the foul language gets edited instead. Children read this forum.

Right, yer whingeing buggers. I've spent half an hour checking EVERY banned member so here's some statistics for you.
There are 1021 banned usernames. 23 aren't spammers.
Out of that 23:-
1 is the swan pedalo mind control chav (for those who remember it).
2 are scammers.
18 are various trade membership violations, including the B**g duplicates.
2-yes, 2 people are on lifetime bans due to their behaviour.
One of those had 5 posts.
Please don't try and tell us we're being heavy handed.More people than that have already been banned from the FB group in the last month.

Well every winging negative thread has a silver lining even if it does highlight my general ignorance . I have just read the rules for the first time . How over complicated are they . I think I am meant to point out irony but I am not sure if LOL is text talk or not .
I have learnt what MOD means , I got the gist of their role but didn't know how many there were and thought that it was a nickname that you lot gave them and probably was from 'ministry of defence ' . I know thick I am but it does point out that if after a year or more in the site I didn't know who they were, then they cant be that law enforcing .
Even I had guessed that John was one of these rule making dictators (giggle a little bit ) but hadn't realised that the other three were .
You might think that I am sucking up here which I do not generally do but there have been a hard core of about ten members that I have learnt to rely on for help and reliable advice as a boating forum Virgin . Out of these 10 four are the gestapo which I genuinely did not know .
As for northern clique I am Derbyshire ( in the middle with no sea ) not sure where that leaves me .
Some people just don't like any restrictions at all and can't receive feedback often because their parents did not teach them to when they were young .

I generally have a look at this forum everyday, to see what's happening. I find it extremely good from a Trade Member point of view. I have signed up new Dry Stack clients and sold numerous RIBs as a direct result of this forum (one more yesterday), so long may it continue!
Ok, so it's not perfect and it's not a democracy - who cares? Use it or don't.
However, threads like this one are fascinating and compelling reading, so long live the bitchiness

That's good to hear and I hope the other 30ish trade members get the same benefit. Boats&Outboards/Peter Down had his concerns about the site and after several years as a valued trade member decided to make a principled stand:

Unfortunately his principles didn't actually extend to ceasing trading on RIBnet. The words "cake" and "eat it" spring to mind...

To be fair, I've got nothing against those particular northerners, its just not very productive for the forum.
Previously their voices used to get diluted amongst the many other voices on there.... Now though it seems that all I can hear is " ay'up lad" or something to that matter...

DOH!!!!..... Just noticed I'm out of bog-roll! That'l teach me!

The last time this came up or a similar thread about this place I must have missed something then too?!
All I see is I pop onto the forum (my Ribnet 'home' page is set to the SIB section as my main interest) every few hours and if there is a Q or discussion I can add to or find interesting I do so, if there is something I want to sell I post it, if I have a problem with an engine I ask for help and always have received it.
That's the forum for me, rubbery boaty discussion/help/advice/sales.
It does what it says on the tin.
I don't generally visit the bilges or get involved in political/religious/bitching stuff as like most people I guess I have enough minor grief in my life and why create more with strangers?
As a RIB/SIB forum it seems as useful as it's always been and long may it continue.
