Sad day

Sad to hear that after 10 years of being a ribnet member and over 5000 posts that PeterM has been permanently banned from Ribnet. Apparently for comparing some moderators in connection to a historical figure from WW2 who didn’t tolerate any criticisms and couldn’t accept that anything he was doing was wrong. The comparison may not be to many people liking but it sounds like it wasn’t a personal jibe but a comparison along the lines of a view of how some people can act or not listen to criticism or take any responsibility for their actions.

We will never know the full story as PeterM cant post anymore.

Anyway, It’s a shame we are losing him as he consistently contributed very well to this forum adding good sense and advice and supporting many of the charity supported events and activities.

Yes it is sad, but it wasn't an isolated incident and PeterM has made it very clear that RIBnet isn't the place for him any more.

The discussion has been had more than enough times.

I think that it is a bit sad and childish to post little jibes on RIBnet about how much friendlier the fb site is to this one.

Like it has been mentioned several times before if you don't like it stay away is all I can say....

Thanks Kerny

I was going to say something similar but held back as I feel I can't actually say anything at all because I'll be accused of bullying, latent aggression, being a nazi, or various other unpleasant little jibes. Grow up. The worst thing is, I'm seeing this behaviour from people I know, have associated with and whom I quite frankly thought better of.

There's no 'us and them' and we're not 'the man' to be 'messed with' or anything like that and anyone that feels there is, quite frankly you shouldn't be here. We simply remove inappropriate postings and posters. We're not paid for it and we put a lot of hours in to trying to help this site run smoothly.

Be assured that we don't ban any non spammer lightly and it takes several warnings to get a ban. These aren't declared publicly as we don't want to make a big deal of it. If you're really stupid enough to carry on trying to push the boundaries after those warnings, you'll be banned.

And I think we'll leave it at that.

Just a final reminder for everyone that there are guidelines about what is acceptable on RIBnet. If anyone hasn't read them, then it's probably worth a couple of minutes of your time.

http://www.rib.net/forum/f31/general...ines-4760.html

If anyone has concerns about a genuine breach of the guidelines then please use the "Report post" feature or drop me a PM.

Hopefully now that the weather is warming up we'll actually get to do some boating instead of fighting each other with our keyboards.

What's going on with you lot, have you got PMT, I've been told twice one in as many weeks of people getting banned from this public forum, it's falling apart lads

No it's not.

A small minority seem determined not to play by the very few rules that we have here. That means they need to find somewhere else to play.

Sadly John I have to agree with Biffer, it's getting harsh on here. It's no good just telling people to "sling their hook" when a long time contributor steps slightly out of line. It's the variety of members and the subjects covered that make it a useful and interesting place to visit, it shouldn't be the domain of a small select group. It defeats the object!

You're right. And we don't do that. It's exceedingly rare for anyone to get banned.

Agreed, and long may it continue to be a useful and interesting place for as many people as possible.

That would be the small minority ( out of what seems to be an ever decreasing majority) that were regularly posting/replying making it interesting for hundreds of others to join and participate in R.Net?

Shame....

From a Mod perspective:

It certainly has and your use of the word reminds me that things are getting very RIBnetish over on Facebook tonight too - which cheered me up no end

Simon Axcell: I still "lurk" on Ribnet... mainly when I have to satisfy a certain call of nature, and find it quite funny now, it's mainly the admins and a few persistent northerners that seem to pat each other on the back everytime a post is replied to... shame but at the end of the day " the king is dead, long live the king"!!

Chris Moody: I am a big fan of lifejackets & kill cords myself, but lighten up a bit guys. It's a cracking photo. Let's leave the safety police bit to RibNet.

Peter Down: I'd quite like the chance to resolve whatever issues they have with me but there's no way to contact them now and it would appear they are going to stick to their guns again. It's crazy. Could somebody message john and ask him to contact me please on askboatsandoutboards4sale@sky.com or 07930 421007 this is silly

I read the first two comments with a wry smile and didn't feel the lack of a "Reply" button

To Peter Down (Boatsandoutboards) I'd just say this: It's all very nice to be able to protest your innocence and shock in the secure knowledge that no-one on the RIBnet mod team will EVER discuss your track record on here (despite having kept ALL of your past PMs) OR the matter of your ban but I also suspect that a return to the fold might have been easier had you not posted PMs from a RIBnet Mod on Facebook

I've said it before, this has gone beyond silly. The Facebook haters should focus on enjoying boating and running a nice Facebook page - forget RIBnet if it bothers you. I'm VERY chilled about your Facebook activities - I look in every now and then for a read and a giggle.

"Calm seas and a following wind to you..."

Just sayin' but..... I don't see the two forums as being mutually exclusive....

And whilst we're sharing, I stick my nose in on Boatmad occassionally too

I concur completely. I'm a MEMBER on Boatmad. I've even posted over there - on the QT, natch! Wouldn't want a ban

Well I'm on Facebook and boat mad , ford truck forum, old tractor forum, does this make my membership to RIBnet in jeopardy, it doesn't seem to be a problem with any of the other forums that I'm on RIBnet, it clearly grips a number of people on RIBnet that there is a breakaway group on facebook

When I said "wouldn't want a ban", I meant that I might get banned over there. Johnny Puller can be somewhat capricious....

Oh yeah, and I haven't got PMT, you old git - I'm cranky and unreasonable ALL the time!
