Server move 27 July 06
The forums will be closed for half an hour or so later this evening while we move to a shiny new server.
I'll try to make sure that everything is back up and working as quickly as possible.
John

OK we're back on after only ten minutes down time
RIBnet has now made the leap to a dedicated server, which means we've got loads of space to grow into. You should find that things run a bit faster too.
Everything looks OK right now, but please let me know if you get any teething problems.
Thanks!
John

How about being able to upload bigger images? Say 800x600 or even 1024x768???

Personally, I find that 640 x 480 is plenty big enough for this sort of use. There are dedicated photo hosting sites which you can use if you want to upload bigger images (if anyone wants a recommendation then www.smugmug.com is one of the best of the bunch, although it's not free).
I'm open to persuasion though, if enough people think that it would make the forums better.

OK, that wasn't a problem with actual memory on the machine (which was a relief!). Turns out to be due to a default setting which was a bit on the low side.
Please let me know if anyone sees any more problems.

John I agree with you. 640x480 is plenty sufficient for the site. Perhaps the irritation is not the viewing it is the uploading - I don't know if it is feasible to have the server do the resizing rather than the "post-er". I realise how stupid it is in terms of bandwidth etc. but it is probably the most common problem new users have uploading and the biggest nuciance for regular picture post-ers.

That's got to be possible, and would definitely reduce headaches for a lot of people! I'll have a look round and see what's available.

OK, a new version of VBulletin (the forum software) was released this week and it includes this feature. Looks like I'll have to make some time for the upgrade now!

No that is not the prob for me. So many people post such stunning pictures 640x480 just doesn't do them credit - most people have a little more than 1m pixell cameras these days!!!
