Slow tonight
I've noticed since the upgrade that Ribnet pages have been slower to load, but have put it down to the extra content etc and my slow connection.
And in reality it's not too bad.
However tonight the site is really very slow for me, and I'm not seeing any differance on other sites I visit regularly.
Anything extra been done today that might be causing it?
Nasher.

RJH, It looks like you have "invisible" mode turned on in your settings. Essentially this means when you are online nobody else knows. Otherwise you are listed as "currently browsing this forum". You can change this in the User CP option at the top.

Yes certainly with Nasher on this one. I hope all this new stuff has not been to the cost of the overall performance speed of the site!!?

I gave up for a while yesterday evening at home it was so slow compared to other sites I use, and I never had to do that before the upgrade. I’m talking about 20 - 30secs for each page to load.
I know my connection is pretty dire, and that’s nobody’s fault on here, but since the upgrade at the wrong time in the evening it really is not useable for me.
However my disco3 forum, motorcycle forum, ebay etc are all so much faster and pages load almost instantly.
The difference during the day at work is far less noticeable but still there.
Obviously it’s usually images that load last for me, but most times the Ribnet logo and Avocet appear instantly at the top of the page then 20-30secs later the forum content appears.
Short of getting the telephone exchange moved and new cables laid down our road I’m not sure what else I can do.
Nasher.

I'm sorry that some people seem to be having issues with the page load speed. It clearly isn't affecting everyone, but we'll try to work it out for you.
It would be helpful if you could do a traceroute and send the results to the helpdesk. To run a traceroute on a Windows PC open a command window (Start : Run : Command) then type tracert rib.net - when it has finished, right click on the title bar on the window and select Edit : Select all. Then hit enter and the output will be on your clipboard ready to paste into a message.
When all the changes to the forum have been finalised we will start to use a Content Delivery Network (CDN) which will take all the images, JavaScript and CSS files and distribute them through a network of servers all around the world. This should speed things up as much of each page will be sent from whichever server has the shortest route to you!
In the meantime make sure you have the latest version of whatever browser you are using, as older browsers will render the pages less efficiently.

John
This evening, despite my other favorite sites opening almost instantly Rib.net is not viable for me to enjoy.
This page to reply to the thread took 38seconds to open, and just now the forum menu took 3min 12secs to open.
Basically, to get to your reply and read it has taken me around ten mins.
Again, other sites are opening as always.
I've tried to run the traceroute, but when it finishes the window closes automatically before I can copy the text. Can I stop this happening?
I'm going to try Firefox to see if it works any better.

Has taken me since my last post at 22.34 this long to wait for the page to close after hitting 'submit reply'(several minutes), close IE9(Instant), open Firefox(Instant), discover that 6 other sites open instantly in firefox, then again take over 5mins minutes to get this far on Rib.net.
