Trade directory
I, like a number of people on this forum, have been duped by Jack Bowran of Gemini Industries, tube manufacrturers, into paying hard earned cash for what is a very poor, sub-standard product. Numerous people on this forum will attest to the poor quality of Geminin tubes. My question for Rib.net is why do you continue to let him advertise on the Trade Directory and continue to dupe unsuspecting members of this forum?
If anyone is interested, I have recorded all of my dealings with with Mr Bowran of Gemini Industries (including pictures) and can publish this on Ribnet.

It's not something that has been brought up before, but I'm happy to open it up to discussion.
At the moment there isn't any vetting of the Trade Directory, and I'm not sure that there should be as it would be very subjective. What criteria would people suggest for companies to be included or excluded?

Robbing thieving tw@ts who take your money promise the earth, then leave you with a RIB you can't use due to a sub standard product they supplied.

I have to say Jack Bowran's reputation is in my head similar to Dan Cooper's.

John,
Its an interesting point, my gut feel was chuck him out for being a charlatan, but where do you stop? BruceB is having some issues with Humber, one of the Scandinavians felt agrieved because Ribcraft didn't send a team of engineers out to fix his 2nd hand boat FOC.
As I understand it his MO is that when anyone complains / threatens trading standard he says hes now retired and no longer trading (although I note he continues to advertise in RibMag). On that basis he should have no real objection to being removed (and any such objection would presumably support a claim to trading standards).
However, if you do take one person out, then by implication its suggests that the trade directory is vetted, which would be a bad idea - as clearly it can't be and you don't want the blame for bad experiences.
I wonder if you could add "user feedback / reviews" type functionality to it (many shop sites offer this sort of thing)? that would let both good and bad feedback on all the trade members with e.g.score out of five stars, and a brief "review". if those were attributed to forum usernames then all the better...

Tch tch, all this chat when a simple "DELETE" in the dark wee hours would have sufficed - too late now though, yis auld yakkin wemmin . I thought about suggesting the Approval Ratings ploy, but it's just more work for JK, and verily he hateth such work that cometh without Pecuniary Reward...
No, I'd just pop a discrete wee linky from Jack the Ripper's listing to the most aggrieved clients thread...

Sorry I wasn't involved more in this discussion - I was working abroad and had limited access to the web.
Yes - his MO is as you suggest. In my case he told me that due to some interference from a similarly named company in Holland, he had to put his company into liquidation and then proceeded to tell me that, as a result of that, I had no claim on any warranty.
I understand how difficult it would be for the 'powers to be' to monitor this but I do like the idea floated above to add a "user feedback / reviews" type functionality to the adverts in the Trade Directory. A bit like the feedback that is employed by eBay, perhaps. Just a thought!
It's a shame that good suppliers like Paul Tilley and others are on the same list as Gemini with no method of differentiating between them.

If he put his company into liquidation and it no longer exists then thats a good enough reason to remove him.

Indeed - except that Gemini Industries Ltd (Co reg no 06959634) as listed on his website is not in Liquidation according to Companies House. He's due to file accounts in the next two weeks. Of course if he's claiming the business is in liquidation when it is not he's probably comitting an offence which could see him struck off as a director etc.
