Ullapool. Main slipway has been upgraded. Campsite not far. Plenty pubs. If you want something else I’ve stayed at Ardmair campsite. It has a little slipway (I launched my 4.8m on it), but tight as a gnat’s chuff. Has lodges on site too. Basically gateway to Summer Aisles and boating paradise.

Ullapool is public slip. Some locals can be a bit stand-offish in my experience, partly due to influx of tourists. I launched there last year and one of the tour boats was tied up (they were jet-washing the hull) and their double cab was parked on the slip and they were drinking tea leaning on the car. Incidentally the double cab had nothing to do with the jet-wash, it was a petrol generator on board the boat.

I was actually launching with a friend who now lives local on Loch Broom, and they could see I was preparing to go. They made no attempt to shift, so I made the long walk like a stand-off at the O.K. Corral. I’m always courteous with these things and they moved.

My advice, is launch, but shift your trailer and tow vehicle afterwards. I put it at the lorry park next to Tesco, and secure with wheel and hitch locks which is free of charge. Not far to walk back.

Ullapool sailing club use the slip too, so always small boats coming and going, so if your trailer isn’t there then you’re not causing an obstruction. Petrol station is at the top of the slip on the Main Street, if you don’t mind paying probably the most expensive fuel prices on the west coast. Is what it is I suppose.

If you launch at Ardmair, then you can anchor there too as sheltered bay.

I think it was Orwell Bouy who stayed here and sung its praises, https://www.google.com/maps/place/Lu...znh4?entry=ttu

The Lord of The Isles Pub is not far but some friends had a frosty reception with expensive drinks and poor service.
