Whats Changed?

Hi all, is it my phone settings that have changed overnight? or has anyone else noticed a change in the layout format on their mobiles. I use to have a simplefied version of the web page on my mobile which was really easy to use and navigate and IMO better than the app. It's now reverted to the full web page which makes everything so small on a mobile that it's unusable.

I’m still on the simple version just now but from time to time, perhaps once or twice a month I get the small print web version and never know why.

Morning David. Sorted my mobile updated overnight.
Assume you are using an android phone, 3 small dots, top right, press, scroll down to "desktop site", make sure it's unchecked for the simplified view.

I have a self driving iPhone and I'm not super teccy re phones but no three dots on mine. If it opens inexplicably in the desktop version I just view it larger then usually the next time it's back to normal.

I am the last person to be swayed by marketing and image it's just that I never really had a phone that felt right until I tried my first iPhone about 11yrs ago. The family were already using them and now having lost grip on that railing at the top of the slippery slope we have the iPhones, iPad, Mac desktop and Apple TV streamer. All I can say is they work for us in a seamless way with superb interconnectivity and have been totally reliable.

Not this time. I was struck by an image of two oldtimers wondering who'd moved the Internet:

"Darn it Bob, mah cap is all stritchy"

"Yor wearin' a possum, Hank"

T'intetnet what's tha?

Joking apart, we went for a drink with a couple we know on Friday night and I was showing them some pics on my phone, which was taking ages to load. That got us talking about mobile phone storage - pics, music etc as mine is getting full and slowing the phone down.
I mentioned that I'd have to either, get a bigger micro sd card or start using cloud storage, to which she replied with all seriousness "but what happens when it rains"

Not a "Is Ribnet finished" post

I was going to put this in the "Is Ribnet Finished" thread, but I'd like to think it's not, hence I have posted it here instead. However, I do think Ribnet may need some surgery. Since the demise of the app, which I personally never used, traffic on the forum has come to a near standstill.
I tend to look on the "New Posts" section to see what's happening, and recently it's shrunk from 7 or 8 active threads to 1, so I took a look around the other "forums" to see if I had missed anything I'd be interested in, and the only one was PD's sausages in "How'd ya like THEM apples?" (can I put an order in Dave?), I missed that even though I tend to look on the forum every day, but no one else commented on his post either so I can only assume it wasn't visable for very long.
Now I don't think that it's because people aren't on the forum, I think it's because members look on the "New Posts" section, which correct me if I'm wrong, appears to be limited to 24hrs, and if nobody adds to that post, it dissappears. I think the "New Posts" should be visable for at least 7 days so members have a chance to see and respond accordingly.
If posts aren't noticed and replied too, members will stop posting, no post, no Ribnet and dare I say it.............

There are many other reasons this forum is slowing down hugely. One of course is it is now the non boating season in many countries. But there are many other reasons. I am sure you know what these are.

At least I have bothered to reply to your post

I check todays posts every day without fail, so I don't think I miss anything but its that time of the year when not many have a contribution to make so it looks dead but we are all here just in hibernation until spring

Think you’ve hit the nail on the head there matey.

Missing the app here. Crazy decision to drop it without a replacement and the mobile view option on the main site is a piss poor alternative.

I am really struggling with Ribnet since the demise of the app. I’m using the mobile version of the website, but find it clunky & un-intuitive. I also use the “new post” feature, but often there’s nothing there, however if I use my laptop & look at the full site, there’s stuff I haven’t seen. This isn’t just a “resisting change” thing, it’s a genuine accessibility/ergonomics problem with Ribnet. I think it’s fair to say that most people access the forum via their mobile on a random basis when they are on the bus/loo/tea break/lunch etc. reverting back to a laptop/desktop format bias, is a huge retrograde step imho.
As always, just my opinion & not based on any facts whatsoever.
