115hp Etec Gone Pop

A good friend has a 115hp Evinrude Etec that was running faultlessly last Friday.

Saturday it was also good, Sun it was used and was fine for an hour or so, then stopped working.

Today he has been told water has got in, not from fuel but from a wave or such like, and the engine is toast.

Can any of the Etec boys comment please?

If he does have to buy a new engine, what do we think is the best bet?

I suggested Suzuki.

Many thank all.

Where is the water in the engine? What’s the damage, has it hydro locked or corroded?

No surprise with an Etec, wouldnt waste money repairing one,
As replacement my favourites in order would be yamaha , suzuki mercury honda. But not a lot between them all in all honesty just avoid any of the hpdi engines they all seem to be bother.

It seems the powerhead is finished.

The rest of the outboard is in great shape, and as I say, I was out on that boat 10 days ago and it ran beautifully.

My buddy is not a hands on sort of a chap, (it's always been maintained by an etec dealer) and it is about to be replaced by a Susuki.

Is anyone here interested in a rebuild? If this sort of a project interests you give us a shout.

Just for parts on Ebay there's money to be made, just not his sort of thing and I can't get involved in another project.
